Nursery fees .......ouch

I’ve just got DSs invoice for this term (term time nursery not open in the holidays)

She goes for three full days split into six sessons (morning/lunch club/afternoon)

We provide lunch.

After her 15hrs are taken off the bill for the whole term is £994

£669 for her sessions
£240 for “lunch” (the 15mins between the morning and afternoon session)
£59 for French/Spanish (compulsory if they are there on a Monday morning)
£60 for snack

Does that all seem reasonable? It seems huge to me!

That does seem rather expensive, I pay £570 a month for 3 full days, all year. That's without any free hours.

1sttimeunicorn · 06/09/2018 17:48

It depends where you live. We pay £900 a month for 3 full days Sad

GawdNurseryFees · 06/09/2018 17:49

What are you classing as a full day? Ours is 9-4

That’s a lot. I’ve got 3. In full time 7.30-5.30 for 2 and 1 in before / afterschool club. Take off the 30 free hours for the middle one and I pay £1300 a month.

GawdNurseryFees · 06/09/2018 17:52

They don’t offer the 30hrs free. She’s nearly 3.5 now, I thought it would be getting cheaper Hmm

Bloody hell. DD1 used to do 3 days (9-3) term time only and it cost me £12 a week.

GawdNurseryFees · 06/09/2018 17:53

@SoyDora WTF?!!!

In our local authority nurseries can only charge for snack, language lessons, lunch etc if there is the option to opt out (e.g. by bringing your own snack or packed lunch, going in the garden instead of the language lesson etc).

Bluecloudyskies · 06/09/2018 17:55

Tell me about it!

Our full day is 8am - 6 pm £35 for whole day lunch included.

Tobuyornot99 · 06/09/2018 17:56

Full days are 7-6, we don't use all those hours but they are available

Bluecloudyskies · 06/09/2018 17:56

Did you get your free hours soy

Imstickingwiththisone · 06/09/2018 17:56

It's very odd they want you to pay for the term upfront, I've only heard of paying monthly.

Stroller15 · 06/09/2018 17:56

That is a lot! DS (2yrs) is in 2 full days - 7.30 - 6:00 - with lunch and snacks included at £470 per month - £54 a day I think.

greathat · 06/09/2018 17:58

Assume this attached to a private school? You've started sliding that slippery slope of added extras

SoyDora · 06/09/2018 17:58

That’s with the 15 free hours. All they charge on top of that is the afternoon session (12-3) which is £12. We provide lunch, and there are no additional charges.
DD2 now does 2.5 days a week term time only (so 15 hours total) and I pay nothing.

DryIce · 06/09/2018 17:59

How many months in a term?

I don't think it sounds crazy if it for a few months. I pay £950 a month for 4 days a week

CodLiverOil556 · 06/09/2018 18:00

Mines £163 a month when I've used my 30 hours free and childcare vouchers. Can you not move her to a different nursery where they do accept the 30hrs...I've found it's a real game changer

MynameisJune · 06/09/2018 18:01

Hang on, per term rather than per month?

That’s cheap to me for 3 full days and meals for 12 weeks.

mikeTV · 06/09/2018 18:02

The "extras" are possibly charged to make up the money that nursery lose through the 15 free hours (government rate is lower than the nursery rate and many childcare providers are out of pocket).

Also depends where you live.

Private nursery (730-6pm) around here is £50/day. 3 days per week for 15 weeks (this term) is £2,250. Taking into account the 15 free hours, this term would cost ~£1,500 (this was what we were quoted).

So more than your nursery, but with extended hours & you providing food.

So on that basis (unless I've missed something) yours doesn't look massively inflated.

Toohot12244 · 06/09/2018 18:03

We pay 550 for 5 full days a week, 0730-1800hours. I get 30 free hours stretched across the year as it’s all year around. Without this is would be £930 a month. This includes lunch / activities and nappies if he was still in nappies

AutoFilled · 06/09/2018 18:04

Mine is £56.50 a day with lunch! And it's not london either. It's just expensive.

DunesOfSand · 06/09/2018 18:08

Ok, 1000 for a term - September, October, November and Dec??? Say 4 weeks per month, minus the first week of Sept, October half term and a week for Xmas. That's means approx 13 weeks, for £1000. £77 a week, 25 a (short) day.
It looks a large amount, but calculated down, actually looks more reasonable.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 06/09/2018 18:15

I am pissing myself at those who are upset at paying 30 or 40 odd quid a day. Try paying 55.

heartsease68 · 06/09/2018 18:16

Mine is £30 a day if 3 days or 26 if 4, packed lunch.

gruffalohoh · 06/09/2018 18:16

I think it's quite steep.

Ignoring snack and language class fees ...

For the other £909 you are getting 21 hours a week. But only paying for 6 hours due to the 15 hours funding. So if we assume your term is 14 weeks long you are paying for 84 hours of childcare. This works out at over £10 per hour!
