We are looking to move house and have seen a nice place in Shinfield. Does anyone know the area? The house is gorgeous but we don’t know the area and worry there might not be much community there.
I’d love some advice from anyone in the know Smile

Yes it's pretty nice. Lots of families, good/convenient transport links but still quite close to green space.

Not familiar with the individual neighbourhoods though. Some are new so may not be much community yet, but it's a decent part of the world so it should be quite naice.

Can you link to the house or specific area more?

There's a lot of new development in the area (but isn't there everywhere). I think it is quite nice, very close to Reading and has a Michelin starred restaurant. I don't know about a sense of community but there is a 10k there each early May bank holiday and they have a village fair at the same time, so there may be other community activities too.

What schools would you be looking at? Some of the Reading schools are hit and miss

Thanks for the replies. We are looking at a new build there. DC have just started at schools nearby.
I haven’t found a village centre in. shinfield, just the little parade with Co-op and a bike shop, and the Bell & Bottle pub. Is there anything else? A community centre maybe?

The only thing I'd be worried about OP is flooding. The side nearest Aborfield is liable to flood. I'd google "shinfield flooding" and look at a map of the area.

Has it not been improved since all the work on roads/house building has been done?

I know other parts of the borough have been improved massively.

I do Pilates class in the village hall there on a Wednesday.(participate in, not teach Grin)

It's nicer than where I live and not to far to more rural areas.

JuliaMontague · 07/09/2018 21:42

Thank you! I’m feeing much more positive about the area now.
Stitching that’s a great find, really interesting
Mervyn I’ll look into flood risk
Liquid I might see you there, I love Pilates Grin
