Boring one - carpet cleaning

With having 2 big dogs and a mucky family, the carpets and sometimes the upholstery often need a good clean or a freshen up.

I hire a rug doctor a few times a year but I've seen the Vax Platinum advertised as being as good, does anyone have one and are they any good?

Or, what do you do to keep your carpet clean?

I have a hard time keeping my carpet clean as I'm potty training my youngest. I used a rug doctor ages ago and it was good. Someone once recommended to me getting a professional carpet cleaner in instead as they use really good products. Never did it so I can't comment.

I'm looking to replace my carpets in the next 12-18 months. For now I just use good old soapy water. And I shake n vac when I hoover
