Anyone live near a suds pond?

My knowledge goes as far to know it's some kind of drainage system but does anyone live near one? Are they gated and are they 'pond' like?

Sorry for the ignorance but we've been told our new house is close to one and I went away with images of feeding ducks on a Sunday morning, sat on a bench reading Mumsnet in peace only to be shot down by dh who said it's nothing of the sort and I have kids so no idea who I was kidding thinking I'd get time to sit on a Sunday.

Any experiences muchly appreciated!

I'm not in the UK but the ones near us are beautiful. They are for dealing with snow melt and we have them in almost every new development. They all have ducks and geese etc. Many have benches and are generally made to look nice

Thank you for taking the time to reply! That sounds perfect, I'm really hoping they're similar here Smile

I am in Scotland and we have one at the entrance to our housing development. It is essentially a S shaped ditch in a fenced off square. Original ally it was just open and everyone could see it. It wasn’t very pretty, mostly there was no water, occasionally a little trickle in the bottom. Now bushes have grown up so you can’t see it anymore. You couldn’t get access to it. I wouldn’t particularly mind being beside one, but they are not really a thing of beauty in my opinion.
