If it is so hot in the Bake Off tent...

Why are they all dressed in wool etc?
Sandi is in a shirt and wool type jumper, Ruby is complaining that it’s boiling whilst wearing a wool/cashmere style shrug, half the guys have vests/t shirts under heavy looking shirts...Confused
Just wear a cotton t shirt? Why do they do this?

They can't change their clothes because of filming cutaways - they wear the same clothes both days.

Other shows like Drag Race do this too, so they can cut and paste commentary from contestants where they want.

To add - it's probably not that hot until all the ovens are on and the sun has been out 3-4 hours, so cooler at the start of the day.

It’s funny you posted this...
First episode they done 2 bakes an then said tomorrow is technical challenge. Next day “alledgely” they are all wearing same clothes?!?! Now I understand about consistency in filming , but if you tell everyone on air(general public) technical bake is tomorrow, no ones going to be querying why they are all in different clothes are they !!! Crazy

I know they wear the same clothes both days, but why start out in heavy layers if you know its going to be sweltering? Seems odd to me.

They start filming for Bake Off in March/April, so in all likelihood it probably wasn't that hot outside.

By the time you have 12 ovens on and all those bodies (think camera crew etc too) then the heat will really increase.

I imagine Noel/Sandi etc just nip out for a breath of fresh air, but obviously the bakers can't :(

Smellybean · 05/09/2018 16:32

dh asked me this tooGrin
I thought it may be because to cover their arms from burns and so forth. Because when they were finished they were all in t-shirts.

Batteriesallgone · 05/09/2018 16:37

I imagine filming starts early and finishes early to allow for overruns etc. So at the beginning it’s cold, you wear layers, then you have to keep the same clothes on and it gets hot as feck.

Remember that fear and tiredness makes you cold, so first thing they are probably feeling pretty chilly.

CakeNinja · 05/09/2018 17:03

I read that they have to wear the same clothes on both days for editing purposes, and so that they can ‘cut and paste’ clips to use for either day. Which is cheating really!!
As to why they are dressed so unseasonably - I don’t know. They said that it was mega hot on Tuesdays episode so god knows why some of the men had shirts and tshirts underneath aswell as an apron! I hate aprons and never cook in one (I know they have to though).

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 05/09/2018 19:36

I said this last night and DD reckons it so that they don’t get wet underarm patches showing.....

cricketmum84 · 05/09/2018 20:22

I said exactly the same to my husband!! Too hot for chocolate to set yet Ruby was in the biggest fluffiest cardigan I've ever seen!
