Strangest thing happened last night ....smoke alarm

So at 02.30 am we were woken by smoke alarm going off.

Not warning beep but about 15 seconds of full whack alarm.

I walked onto landing and thought it seemed hazy and shouted to DP there's smoke. We both shot down to investigate.

No smell

No smoke

No triggering factors

But we both thought there was a hazy mist on landing.

Hhhhhhhmmmmmmm

Are you sure you weren't just bleary eyed at being woken up in the middle of the night by a loud noise? Last time our smoke alarm went off like that it was because a daddy long legs had landed on it and poked it's legs through the grill covering the sensor.

Kidssendingmenuts · 05/09/2018 14:17

Mine did this, just needed a new battery! Scared the living shit out of me too 😂😂

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 05/09/2018 14:18

Yes, it’s the low battery warning. No idea about the mist.

hmcAsWas · 05/09/2018 14:20

A ghostly presence, wooo

MarthasGinYard · 05/09/2018 14:23

All batteries checked and fine.

The mist was clearly noticeable and by DP

I thought if he doesn't mention it then it's the old mince pies playing me up.

All a bit woo

Felt like that film 'The Fog'

Smoking ghost, burn the house down and throw holy water on the remains.

Ours did that two or three times and it turned out to be condensation on the sensor. Cold night after a warm muggy day and it sets off.
We ended up swapping it with the one in the kitchen and that solved the problem. Though it does occasionally go off in the kitchen if there's too much steam!

TeddyIsaHe · 05/09/2018 14:36

If a little bug gets inside it can trigger it. Happened to mine and I shit myself at 3am thinking the house was on fire.

doradoo · 05/09/2018 14:47

Ours did this about a month ago -DH and I shot out of bed, DCs hear nothing. The alarm stopped by itself after a few beeps. Was definitely the full on alarm not the battery sensor.

Anyway, about three weeks later, the battery did go, with the usual little beeps, so we figured it was to do with the battery running down.

Magicstar1 · 05/09/2018 15:04

That's weird OP....a few times I've walked on to our landing and thought it was quite hazy. No reason for it so I've put it down to the sun coming through the back window or something. At 2.30 am I wouldn't have a clue Confused

MarthasGinYard · 05/09/2018 17:45

Thanks all

Will monitor and hopefully there will be no more alarm

My parents' one did that once. I shot out of bed, decided there was nothing, and went back to bed, where my dad popped his head out and said he'd heard it too, he assumed all was okay. Never worked out why

Yadda · 05/09/2018 19:11

It gives you such a fright.

Mine did that one night. I think DH and I went from sleeping to standing in a split second. Nothing on fire. Changed the battery the next day, just in case.

FuckMyUterus · 05/09/2018 19:31

You don't have any children of an age to be vaping do you? My smoke alarm goes crazy if I vape near it.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 05/09/2018 19:34

That is weird as ours went off for no reason on Mon night at god knows what time!?!

Aliens testing a new space ray on different parts of the country?

Or one of the more sensible reasons above.

MarthasGinYard · 05/09/2018 19:40

No secret Vaping

Seems we are not alone though Mother.

If it goes off tonight I'll be going to the travel lodge.

I'm normally quite laid back but this had me up most the night after
