Sex/Gender, surely the NHS should understand?

I'm signing up for organ donation and I'm presented with a choice for "Gender" .... this is about organs, that is biology not sociology, so that should be "sex"

(rolls eyes)

Unless you are donating, say, a penis, I suspect it doesn’t matter.

I dont know enough about organ transplantation to know if the sex of the organ's owner matters, but if it does then yes it should say sex.

If it does matter problem is that you will still get people who will answer in accordance with their gender, not their sex.

They probably need both on the form. Or at least a big red note to say that they mean biological sex, anyway.

I checked into a flight this morning that wanted to know my gender (it's a small plane so they need to know how many men and women there are and then they use average weight statistics to ensure the plane is balanced and still might move people around once they've seen them and there happens to be a lot of heavy people on one side/end of the plane and light ones on the other).

I know there's unlikely to be sufficient trans people on any given flight to mess with their weight averages but it still annoyed me.

We deal with some regulations at work that says sex once, and gender twice when they mean sex because it's in relation to protecting unborn children if their mothers are working with a hazardous substance while they are pregnant. I'm just waiting for a transwoman demanding the protections given to women of child bearing age, even though there is zero chance of them becoming pregnant.

@SoupDragon - no it doesn't matter, but then neither does gender.
