How much mixer with a single measure of spirit

Trying to make the transition from wine to gin (I just seem to get so drunk on wine now, is that an age thing ? Shock)
And I've bought a measuring cap for spirits so know how much gin is a single measure but how much mixer do u put in ? I've bought the big bottles of different flavoured tonics to see which one I like best but don't know what's the norm amount to use

Depends how you like it! I think the individual cans of mixer drinks are 150 ml, but I do have some bottles of bitter lemon which are 250 ml

I make a long drink with one shot of gin. So lots of mixer!

I use a full can (330ml) of lemonade (prefer it to tonic) with a double measure of gin, and a full can of Diet Coke with a double measure of rum.

When I noticed how fast I was getting through a bottle of gin, I measured out a double (50 ml) and realised it was far less than what I was using by just pouring it into the glass and my 'shots' of gin were probably 80-90 ml Shock. I have this with 250 ml of tonic (I get the little cans of Waitrose Essential tonic).

But I like to taste the gin in my tonic, so I only let myself have one or two a night and only a couple of nights a week, so broadly in line with alcohol guidelines.

Fever tree's advert says 'if 3/4 of your G&T is tonic, make it a good one' which would suggest 150 ml of tonic (one of the little cans from their multipacks) plus a double shot of gin.

As much as you like!

Having said that...

I drink spirits neat most of the time.

Cognac, bourbon, single malt, always neat, and almost always without ice.

Vodka/gin sometimes neat, sometimes with a bit of tonic or lemonade. "Don't drown it," is good advice. If you don't like the taste of the spirit, why drink it?

I agree it's a good idea to have a measure, but a single measure at home is barely worth the trip to the kitchen Grin

For what it's worth, I can put away spirits like nobody's business, but I find one large glass of wine is enough. I have to switch to sherry or port after that.

Who drinks single measure!?!😂

Go double!

laceygo · 05/09/2018 12:38

Lol ok I get the message I need to double measures Grin and maybe just try around 250 ml of tonic (carton of juice size )

Tbh I hate measuring, I pour free hand. I like a strong drink and have a very high tolerance, so mine are between a double and a treble. Half pint glass full to the top, never ever any ice.

My OH drinks gin & uses 3 shots of tonic to 1 shot gin
