How tidy is your house?

Just that really!

Is your house always tidy (guest ready) or do you have a mad panic to get it all done before guests arrive?

I feel like all I ever do is tidy and mine is never guest ready Grin

Guest ready all the time. I might need a quick run round if a guest wanted to stay the night (change bedding and ensure the guest en suite is up to par) but other than that, I don't mind who comes in at any time, there is nothing to see but a tidy house Smile.

I hate it any other way - can't concentrate if it is a mess and I wfh so don't need the distraction of an untidy house.

Personally I just find that my life is pretty hectic and full on a lot of the time. Working and 3 dc to look after and organise and a dog that needs at least 2 hours of exercise a day. I find that if the house is reasonably tidy, clean and organised then I feel mentally prepared to deal and cope with everything else.
If the house is a mess I just feel a loss of control that I really hate and it stresses me out. I really don't care or even look at other peoples houses - it doesn't matter at all to me how tidy someone else's house is or isn't.
My family appreciate it's about compromise- they may not be bothered about mess but they know I am and it's my house too, therefore they all make an effort to help out and keep things reasonably tidy. The DC can get all their toys out if they like but I have taught them to tidy up at the end of the day or if we are leaving the house.

Always clean and tidy, could have guests anytime. I like order because I feel more relaxed then dirt and mess sets me on edge.

Depends on the guest. If it’s my GM (who thankfully doesn’t visit often...) then no, it’s never ever to her unscrupulous standards. Last time she visited she likened it to a crack den purely because she didn’t like how my new curtains hung Hmm.

Normal people though, yes it’s tidy. I’ve never ever had a dirty house, I couldn’t stand it. The DC’s bedrooms are the messiest rooms but not dirty, just toys and clothes strewn around... perfectly normal for children imo.

I'm not naturally tidy but huge improvements since I did Marie kondo and organised mum method. Thank you mumsnet
