How tidy is your house?

StrawberryShortie · 04/09/2018 23:48

Just that really!

Is your house always tidy (guest ready) or do you have a mad panic to get it all done before guests arrive?

I feel like all I ever do is tidy and mine is never guest ready Grin

Kitchen living room and dining room are guest ready at all times I hate mess
Bedrooms are a tip as waiting for new wardrobes and doors so everything is on the floor

Dartsplayer · 05/09/2018 13:03

Always messy (3 kids) but I hate it. Spend so much time tidying up for them to literally be following me round making mess again!!

Fluffybat · 05/09/2018 13:18

Messy. 16 month old and pregnant. My DS still throws food so hoover 3-4 times a day. Feel like all I do is tidy but its never tidy. It stresses me out!

Chipsahoy · 05/09/2018 13:28

Always tidy. I don't mind toy mess but all must be cleaned up by the end of the day.
I do twenty mins of cleaning each day. Plus a load of laundry each day. There's five of us, including a baby.
Things like inside cupboards and behind couches, certainly aren't done very often, but all surfaces, dusting, moping and hoovering, plus windows and skirting are done regularly.

Bluntness100 · 05/09/2018 13:37

Always clean and tidy. Which is very different to my younger years.

It's interesting this is the first house I've loved. Fell in love with it soon as I saw it on line. I commented to my husband thr other day that I've become very tidy over the years, that it was odd, and he responded with "it's because you're house proud" which kind of took me aback, it's such an old fashioned term. But I suspect there is some truth in it. I love it here so keep it clean and tidy. I suspect if you don't love your house, then motivation to keep it loooking good is less. Hmm

AbeautifulBeast · 05/09/2018 13:41

Always clean and tidy, do it as I go. I don't even have to think about it anymore really.
Someone posted a pic on fb of their children in back to school uniform with toys, general mess and a dirty nappy in the background. Just why?

Loonoon · 05/09/2018 13:45

Mines tidyish now. It would take 30 minutes to get it to proper visitor tidy. But that’s because DC have left home and I have time on my hands.

My excuse (if I needed one, which I don’t ) for not being super neat all the time is that a bit of mess doesn’t bother me. There are always more interesting things to do than tidy up. Or garden. Each to their own.

DieAntword · 05/09/2018 13:48

Only tidy once the kids are in bed.

Oly5 · 05/09/2018 14:24

Messy. Not enough hours in the day!

thaegumathteth · 05/09/2018 14:33

Downstairs could be guest ready 90% of the time in 10 mins.

Upstairs especially our bedroom - no comment.

holycityzoo · 05/09/2018 14:43

Always guest tidy downstairs.
Upstairs is tidy 75% of the time. It's messy today because I'm spending the last day with ds before he starts school.

cocoallure · 05/09/2018 14:45

Pretty spotless nearly all of the time bar DD room, she's a teen and I'm on strike from sorting her shit tip out! So I've just closed her door!!!

actualpuffins · 05/09/2018 15:24

It's not too bad, there may be a bit of clutter around but it's clean. I might do a quick tidy up and hoover before guests come but nothing more than half an hour.

MinaPaws · 05/09/2018 15:49

It's currently a tip because I told DC now they are both in 6th form that they have to pick up after themselves and do their own laundry so they're ready for uni. And they've yet to realise how often that has to happen.

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 05/09/2018 16:01

Mad panic and hide things.

Although now i’m At home and have little of my sanity back i’m getting better with being tidier.

I took the dryer down today so I must be getting better Hmm

mogloveseggs · 05/09/2018 16:04

Messy currently.
Kitchen is ok just need to empty bin and mop floor
Living room ok just need to hoover
Upstairs is a shit tip. Off to sort it now or it wont get done till my next day off on sunday

Seniorschoolmum · 05/09/2018 16:05

At the moment, pretty tidy. My ds has been back from his dad’s for two days, my house guest left this morning and we haven’t had to do any homework yet

I give it until the weekend. Grin

Ellapaella · 05/09/2018 16:12

It's pretty tidy as I cannot stand clutter and mess. I have 3 DC and a dog so it's obviously not pristine all the time but if someone was calling round in 5 minutes It's tidy enough that a quick scoot round would be all that was required.

anitagreen · 05/09/2018 16:19

Very clean and tidy I grew up in a shit whole for want of a better word. It was awful since I've had children it's got a little worse to the fact I spend most of the day tidying and putting stuff back etc and cleaning I can't stand mess or dirt I do think I have OCD tendencies though

MuffinMad · 05/09/2018 16:23

Quite tidy. Don't know about spotless! We have pets which can add to the dusty surfaces and (hairy) floors but generally the place is ok.

We've decluttered a lot recently and I think that is the way to go to keeping it tidy.

I wouldn't be bothered if anyone turned up at any time. I think it's ok.

CloudCaptain · 05/09/2018 16:23

Very tidy. I prefer minimalism and plenty of storage space.
I feel a trip to ikea coming on. Need more drawers...
Grin

GoodbyeSummer · 05/09/2018 16:27

We rarely if ever have guests and when we do I don't bother tidying up for them because they're only family and their houses aren't exactly palaces either so that's not an issue. Our house is as tidy as it can be with 2 small children who collect junk and not a lot of space. You can see the floor and most of the surfaces and most of the clutter does have a place to live in but there's nowhere to hide it all.

liv4357 · 05/09/2018 16:40

Mine is tidy, I clean and tidy as I go. My 2 year old has other ideas Hmm but I find it easier then having a huge clean up before anyone visits. When it's messy it really agitates me, but I do really enjoy cleaning and organising anyway

blueshoes · 05/09/2018 16:56

Tidy and clean enough for people to drop in casually. However, it will be tidied, all surfaces cleared and spotless if we have guests over for a meal (cue big clean the day before).

CakeNinja · 05/09/2018 16:59

Generally pretty tidy and guest ready.
I chuck the hoover round downstairs daily, washing is done daily, dishwasher is always loaded up and goes on multiple times a day. Toys are pretty much all upstairs in the playroom now, it’s only ds who has toys as the older ones have pretty much outgrown them.
I don’t keep hold of tat, have very regular declutters of the odd drawer/cupboard that has things lurking we don’t need anymore.
Can’t stand piles of stuff anywhere (although the dining table can become a hotspot of this kind of thing!) and am ruthless about getting rid of stuff.
Plus, the cleaner came today so the house is also sparkling!
