How tidy is your house?

StrawberryShortie · 04/09/2018 23:48

Just that really!

Is your house always tidy (guest ready) or do you have a mad panic to get it all done before guests arrive?

I feel like all I ever do is tidy and mine is never guest ready Grin

Never ever have guests.
And tidying up when you have dc is like clearing snow when its still snowing apparently!

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoooorrr · 05/09/2018 08:32

Tidy. Unless DH is home. Then it's just a shit hole.

He tidies once a year for the annual royal visit MIL and SIL. Other than that he dumps his crap everywhere, then gets annoyed when I put it all in a box and leave it on his side of the room Grin

DigsysDiner · 05/09/2018 08:35

Absolute shithole at the mo. No real excuse for it other than laziness.......I plan on gutting it now ds has gone back to.school. I'll clean a room a day until it's all decluttered then will keep on top of it.

StylishMummy · 05/09/2018 08:39

Mine is always clean with a smattering of clutter that I can chuck in a hiding place in 2-3 minutes. All the DCs toys go in several large pretty fabric storage baskets so they're away - generally ready for guests within 5 minutes

Millie2013 · 05/09/2018 09:22

A lot tidier now DD is back in school.....

I do like things to be tidy, I get quite grumpy and anxious when the house is a tip. That said, I want DD to grow up in a home, not a show home, so I do tolerate a degree of mess

PrefabSprouts · 05/09/2018 09:38

Always a bit messy, we have lots of clutter (books/toys, etc) and no storage. I'd have to do the 20 minutes mad dash if someone was coming unexpectedly, it's not filthy, but it could be cleaner.

BarbedBloom · 05/09/2018 09:54

Tidy and guest ready, which is lucky as our landlord had to let himself in yesterday. I like cleaning, my DH does his fair share and we don’t have children, so all of that makes a big difference

Coconutcake0 · 05/09/2018 09:57

Always tidy. No excuse for an untidy house.

Plus i rarely have guests, apart from friends who just walk in anyway. Living rurally, people can’t be bothered to drive up here!

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 05/09/2018 10:44

Mines an absolute shit tip Blush

Now the kids are back at school I’m planning a major sort/clean/declutter as a. We are moving in 6 weeks and b. Get rid in time for new stuff at Christmas!

Fun times for me...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 05/09/2018 10:45

Enough.

It’s a house,not an operating theatre. I hate cleaning.

LilQueenie · 05/09/2018 10:51

Tidy...... lets start with desecration and work our way up. I cannot move for toys and clothes. its not exactly hoarders territory although dd's room is verging on it. Mostly its just bad storage.

PrefabSprouts · 05/09/2018 11:01

Always tidy. No excuse for an untidy house.

God, I've got loads of excuses; Lack of storage, too small a house, DH obsessed with books, DC obsessed with Lego, I'm lazy, I hate housework, I don't mind the 'lived-in' look, I have much more important things to do... I could go on.

Justgivemesomepeace · 05/09/2018 11:06

Reasonable usually. Guest ready if the guest is just family or close friend. Sorted in 30 mins if it's the in laws or someone important! Not sure who that might be though!
Unless it's a Saturday and DP has had the kids on his own all day whilst I work. Every single room will be a tip so don't call on a Saturday please.

Atalune · 05/09/2018 11:10

Guest ready pretty much all the time.

I can’t bear mess and I do try and maintain my home to be clutter free. It’s still lived in but I tidy/clean as I go and have little cheats to help me along the way.

Mildmanneredmum · 05/09/2018 11:10

Tidy and spotless. Just how I like it!

Bullnoway · 05/09/2018 11:10

Depends on the day of the week. I'm very tidy and DH isn't. So if I know I'm out, or away for a few days, I don't bother tidying. Because I know if I comeback to a shithole - which I definitely will, I'll be consumed with fury for my DH and what feels like his total disregard for my domestic labour. The rest of the time, it's tidy and looks pretty.

sulflower · 05/09/2018 12:19

Tidy and clean, no excuse as only two of us.

wfrances · 05/09/2018 12:26

always tidy (but my children are older)

mommybear1 · 05/09/2018 12:35

Always tidy and clean now the builders have finally left Grin. Not sure it's always guest ready though but I hate untidiness and not being able to find things so for friends it's always guest ready MIL on the other hand ................

bumblingbovine49 · 05/09/2018 12:37

Livable most of the time. Usually guest ready within 10-30mins depending on how much cleaning/tidying we have done that week and how busy we have been. Most often it takes 10 mins or so to get it ready but occasionally longer.

No way are the skirting boards and doors cleaned every other day though. More like every few months!. Hidden corners are often a bit dusty or with a few cobwebs. I do move stuff to clean behind it every few weeks, I wouldn't d that for a guest visit though.

I would tidy up by putting away anything that is not in its proper place, and wipe kitchen surfaces which would only take 5 mins usually. I would make sure the bathroom/loo was wiped down in case it was a few days since it was last done so possibly another 5 mins.

I might also quickly sweep/vacuum the downstairs floors if they looked like they needed it as they often get dirty even though I sweep/vacuum them every day at least once. 5-10 mins

LusaCole · 05/09/2018 12:42

Mine is somewhere in between, not too bad but life's too short for spotless!

Kim82 · 05/09/2018 12:45

Mine is usually clean and tidy. I need to have a quick whiz round to clear up the “getting ready in the morning mess” but that’s 10 mins of a job (been having my hair done all morning so haven’t done it yet). I like the house to always be clean and tidy once the dc are at school and again at the end of the day. Me, dh and dd1 are all pretty good at tidying as we go, I still need to work on dds 2&3 yet...

posieperkinandpootle · 05/09/2018 12:47

I do more tidying in the ten minutes before I know someone's coming than I do for the rest of the week. Right now my house looks like someone picked it up and gave it a good shake. But it's all superficial, it's clean underneath. I've been in houses where there's nothing lying around but you have to breath through your mouth to try and avoid the stink and are scared to have so much as a cup of tea. I know what I'd rather have.

Thinkingofausername1 · 05/09/2018 12:49

Messy it makes me depressed. No matter what I do, i seem to uncover more crap.

Padparadscha · 05/09/2018 12:58

Mine is certainly passable. Upstairs has a bit of clutter, have some clean clothes that need putting away and old clothes need to go. Living room tends to usually have some toys out, but I have two under 3, so not unexpected. Sadly not rich enough for a big house with a playroom! Floors could do with a hoover probably, the cooker needs a wipe rather than a scrub, but I wouldn’t be embarrassed if someone popped around right now. It’s a lived in home, mostly clean and tidy - I couldn’t live to ‘show home’ standard, too much hard work!
