Erm is it teen spk? Like shippin or something?

titchy · 04/09/2018 22:36

Teen speak lol! It's a language to interrogate databases!

Sorry op, similarly happy with sql, don't know what hue adds.

Isn’t it just a query interface (similar to Management studio for SQL Server if you’re Familiar with that?)

I've used it a bit. Used for querying hadoop data. Syntax itself is pretty similar to 'normal' sql, couple of quirks but close enough you can pick it up no problem.

Main difference is the underlying data. Where sql is traditionally used to query relational databases, hadoop is pretty much a distributed file system designed for fast access of 'big data'. As such the data can be unstructured, so how you use the query language may depend a bit on the specific dataset. For example you can have things like nested arrays which take a bit of getting used to.

What is hadoop?

I am a bit worried about his big data rubbish. I love relational databases why are they fiddling with them :) happy with data warehousing, that makes sense. But I do not understand structurally what big data is!

Me too. I love a relational database. Current job involves some NoSql though (and I don’t like it!).
