Can I retrieve lost messages on WhatsApp?

Really hope someone can help me please. My DH accidentally deleted WhatsApp messages on our ‘family’ thread on my phone. This was around 4 weeks ago and I am particularly upset, as it was just a few days after my DM died and every time I visited her I used to sit with her and send messages from her and photos to my DH and sons whilst with her. I know I can get the photos back (and I think most have saved to my album anyway), but I would really like to get the whole thread back if possible? My Sons all still have the complete thread on their phones, but when they tried to send it to me, it was just a block of text. If it makes any difference, we all have iPhones. Please help. Thank you.

On your what’s app do you back the chats up? If so yes you can get messages back as they will be stored in your ‘cloud’

Thanks for replying Pinkheart. I’ve just checked and it looks like I have back up for WhatsApp on my iCloud. Do you know what I need to do please?

Pull down from the top of the screen and you should see a new line appear called "archived chats" - hopefully it's in there. Sorry to hear about your mum Thanks

Unfortunately the chat wasn’t there when I pulled the screen down. My DH had deleted all messages in the chat, but not the actual chat group (if that makes sense?). Do you know if there’s any way my son can send the whole chat thread to my phone, as he still has it? Thank you.

Yes, he can export the chat. If he opens the chat, then clicks on the name of the chat at the top, it will open a page that looks like this...

Then scroll down to export chat as shown below. Hope that works for you!

Thanks for the info Whereas. I followed your instructions, but when chat has exported it is in zip file format, which won’t open in WhatsApp on my iPhone.

Have a look when your iPhone was last backed up in settings and see if it was before the date he deleted it. If so restore form back up on your phone. X
