Can somebody tell me what the size of this oven door is?

I need to know how far out the oven door opens.

I can’t work out the measurements.

It’s this Neff: www.johnlewis.com/neff-u1ace2hn0b-built-in-double-oven-stainless-steel/p3436771

Having a bit of a panic as kitchen getting ripped out in less than 2 weeks

Can somebody tell me what the size of this oven door is?

I don't know whether I have that exact model, as mine's about 6 years old, but I do have a very similar Neff double oven and the lower (so main oven door) when it's flat opened out sticks out about 45cm.

By 'about', I mean a wee bit under 45cm!

Looking at the oven on the Neff site it seems the height is split up into 96mm for the display panel and the rest is split 1/3 for top oven and 2/3 for bottom oven. Also, top oven capacity is 34l, bottom oven capacity is 71l. Taking into account the gap between ovens this makes it approx. 1/3 and 2/3 split.

So height 888 - display panel 96 = 792mm

792/3 = 262mm

262 x 2 = 524mm

So if it is a 1 third and 2 thirds split the top oven door is approx 262mm tall and the bottom oven door is approx 524mm tall.

If it is a 3/8 and 5/8 split they will be top - 297mm and bottom - 495mm.

It might be worthwhile phoning or e-mailing a retailer (eg John Lewis) and ask them to take a tape measure and measure the door itself for you to get an accurate measurement, most places would be willing to measure for you, especially if you indicate you might want to buy it from them (even if you have no intention of doing so) as they will help you out in the hope of getting the sale.

If, as a pp says, it is only about 450mm that will make the top oven door 324mm. Looking at the actual photos on the Neff site that doesn't look right for the ratio, but I might be wrong. Of course, it all depends on the angle the photos have been taken.

But, it does look like a lovely oven and if I had the money and space I wouldn't mind one of those. (Ever so slightly jealous emoji, looks at my old cooker with disdain.) (Hope you enjoy it!)

The top oven, being shallower in depth, has a smaller outwards opening door.

I think that the OP is more concerned about how much space the main oven door takes up when it's fully open.

You do need to leave enough space between the fully open door and any other kitchen units nearby.

Worieddd · 04/09/2018 15:52

How both thanks for the replies! Yes you are correct Cee I need to make sure I have enough room to open the oven door as I have another set of units at right angles to where the oven will be!

Deathy I love your scientific answer! Grin

That drawing doesn’t tell you how high the oven doors are (ie how far they open out).

Worieddd · 04/09/2018 15:57

You would think that would be an important part of deciding on buying an oven right Bike

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 04/09/2018 16:03

You would, but I look at engineering drawings for a living, and I really can’t see where it tells you.

CeeCeeAndAida · 04/09/2018 16:04

Yes it does! This bit of the diagram says 'maximum 50 cm'!! That's meant to indicate the maximum opening width for the door!

Can somebody tell me what the size of this oven door is?
BikeRunSki · 04/09/2018 16:14

But is that what that means? Because all the other measurements are in mm?

Actuality, 50 cm would make sense, but it’s bad practise to use different units on the same drawing.

I stand corrected.

CeeCeeAndAida · 04/09/2018 16:28

I suspect the drawings are a tad shoddy, BikeRunSki!! You are looking at it with your 'engineering head' on and I was looking at it with my 'property head' on!!

I realised, before I'd even measured my oven door, that they meant near enough 50 cm.

Worieddd · 04/09/2018 18:30

Well I rang Neff and it’s about 49.5cm, I suspect you are correct CeeCee it’s the bit on the drawing! Very unclear.

I am now having to cancel my order and get a slide and hide as the space it’s going in is going to be a bit of a squeeze. Can’t believe I didn’t notice earlier. Gutted can’t have a double oven anymore

itbemay · 04/09/2018 18:34

If it’s any consolation, I moaned and groaned for almost 6 years to get a double oven with our lovely new kitchen.... embarrassed to admit I’ve never used the top part!!

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2018 18:41

You’re right CeeCee, totally overthinking!

Worieddd · 04/09/2018 18:54

itbemay that is a consolation! Thanks Smile

CeeCeeAndAida · 04/09/2018 19:29

But the bottom one is the main oven! I use both ovens, the bottom more than the top - but they both get used.

Does your new oven have to be at right angles to another unit, Worriedd?
