Just wondering do you leave your keys in your front door at night or do you take them out? Just wondering what is best in terms of safety

In the lock for convenience and fire safety reasons.

This is the first house we've lived in that needs the key to exit. It got lost once and one of our family panicked at being trapped in (alone) and smashed a window to leave.

We always left ours in the door, until my two year old demonstrated her skills at turning keys by liking herself in my parents’ bathroom.
Keys now on a hook very near the door but quite high up.

lucky we have wind up torches in every room in case of power cut. in bedside tables, in hall drawer, hanging on key hook, kitchen drawer, in a box on the mantle, and one hanging on the back of the door!

We don’t need a key to exit the front door so the keys are in the kitchen. No one is breaking into our house for our old dented Ford Focus anyway.

We have a turn handle lock on the inside of the porch door which I lock at night so it’s easy to escape in a fire. I want the same for the back door - need a key to lock that from the inside. The key for that is kept in the lock.

Leave ours in. Don't see how they could be stolen, someone would have to break the door or wall down which renders the key immaterial. I'd rather the DC can get out in an emergency.

We live in a country where mailboxes are at the end of the drive.

Therefore we have no letter box.

So I always leave mine in for the reason of a fire.

We have a hook on the stairs where the spare keys live
Not fishable and easy to find in darkness/smoke
