Child seats on bicycles

Id be interested in people’s thoughts on these. My initial impression is that they’re a bit unsafe given how risky all cycling is anyway. And I saw one the other day - and I’m honestly not being judgmental -where the adult was wearing a big back pack and the child’s face was inches from it.

PS Im asking purely out of general interest - DS is 34 so he won’t be riding on the back of my bike any time soon!

PS2 the battery’s dying on my ipad so I won’t be back for a bit

I bought one a few weeks ago that will take a child up to age 10yrs. My son is 4 and starts school this week across town so thought it would be ideal.
It's made by a Dutch company but I'm not sure we will use it. We have been out for a few practice rides it's fine when we are cycling along but when I stop or try to turn the weight of my son means the bike tips.
My son is a small 4 year old and can not imagine having him much bigger on the back.

I don't like them, but I think they're 1000% safer than those little trailers that you tow behind your bike with a DC in it and a little flag that, hopefully, other road users will see.

I have just mine for well over 3 years along with trailer which I've used for over 4 years.

I don't live in the UK so maybe there are not as many cars on the roads but them being unsafe is something that has never occurred to me. I am probably a very confident and safe cyclist though as cycled all my life.

Driving a car is dangerous, I'd need to see some relative statistics of bike accidents versus car accidents to believe it was any more dangerous
