Am I sad going to the cinema alone? What to do in my spare time?

Just that really. Is it sad to go to the cinema alone? I have a few child free hours and the afternoon off work. Everyone else that's coming in are coupled up. What do you all do on your spare time?

Sad? God no! Cinema on your own is a marvelous, decadent luxury! Enjoy it. Culture is wonderful and you deserve to enjoy it any time you can whether or not anyone else is spare to accompany you.

Me and my partner have varying interest in films (I love superhero films, he doesn't!) and will quite often go on my own. I rather like it to be honest 😊. Other options would be a bit of pampering? Nails or massage or something.

scarlettoftheseas · 03/09/2018 16:00

It is definitely not sad. People make a bigger deal out of it than it is. Trust me, I used to go all the time before having dc and never thought anything of it.
If you're really nervous about it, maybe turn up a couple of minutes into the adverts so you don't have to sit there self-consciously in the light. But do it!!! Cinema isn't a social event anyway, you're sitting in silence in the dark. Go and enjoy and let the nerves go Smile

Outedsochanged · 03/09/2018 16:03

I love it, always make a beeline for the cinema when on my own. Always gutted if time off doesn't coincide with a film I want to watch!

ShirleyPhallus · 03/09/2018 16:04

Solo cinema is better than going with someone imho!

argumentativefeminist · 03/09/2018 16:05

I do most everything alone! Cinema, meals out, day trips, the works. I much prefer it and it's definitely not weird or sad, it just feels a bit unusual at first.

BevBrook · 03/09/2018 16:07

I often go to the cinema by myself of an evening. Like the above poster I like superhero films and DH doesn't. It's great. I do prefer it, actually.

Littlebelina · 03/09/2018 16:10

If you are, I am! Love going to cinema and don't mind going alone

megletthesecond · 03/09/2018 16:10

Going to the cinema on your own is the height of civilisation. Go for it.

Pressuredrip · 03/09/2018 16:14

I work at a cinema, and people come on their own all the time, if that makes you feel any better. If you feel embarrased, no one will know you are on your own until the film starts anyway. Hope you enjoy it.

SwordToFlamethrower · 03/09/2018 16:40

I've been to the cinema on my own lots of times! No one cares. Just go and enjoy your date with yourself! Have the nachos and popcorn and treat yourself

SapphireSeptember · 03/09/2018 16:44

I'll be going off to the cinema on my own as soon as the next Fantastic Beasts film comes out (I missed the last one.) I can't wait! I don't usually go to the cinema, but I've been to gigs, restaurants, and out shopping on my own and love it.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 03/09/2018 16:48

Not at all sad. If it’s something you want to see go and see it. I’m going into London to see the Heathers musical by myself in a few weeks. DH doesn’t fancy it, DD fancies it but is too young, I don’t know anyone else who would enjoy it or would want to commit to a weekend day out and an expensive theatre ticket, I’m perfectly happy going on my own.

Babybearsporij · 03/09/2018 18:21

I bloody love going to the cinema on my own so I can get pick & mix & not share it. I'm jealous OP!!

ChubbyMummy12 · 03/09/2018 18:43

I did it! Must admit it was quite nice going on my own! Didn't have to share my popcorn! 😏 I think I'd definitely go again :)

It's great to go on your own. Lots of people I know go on their own to cinema.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 03/09/2018 18:48

I have a Cineworld card so can watch as many movies as I like for £18 a month.

I quite often go in the afternoon if I haven’t got much work on, I love it! It’s always quiet in the daytime and of all the places you don’t need a partner, sitting in the dark watching a movie is certainly up there. Enjoy!

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 03/09/2018 18:50

I love going to the cinema on my own! It's so much better than going with others, you can see whichever film you want, whatever timing you want. Snuggle down with your popcorn. You don't talk to people in the cinema anyway, I feel it's a waste of company.

Lauren0rder · 03/09/2018 18:51

Dh bought me an unlimited card for the cinema.

It’s awesome and I go alone every week.

IhatetheArchers · 03/09/2018 18:51

Going during the day is brilliant If you are really lucky you will get the whole cinema to yourself. There is nothing quite like a private screening.

Figgygal · 03/09/2018 18:53

Aw I love doing it
Not many opportunities to do so these days

I went to theatre on my own in London when was down there overnight for work and went to a gig recently on own as husband was ill and didn't see point of neither of us going.

Swissgemma · 03/09/2018 18:54

This comes up so often... I always go out alone ... just went for a weekend away... nice dinner, glass of wine, theatre, starfishing in bed.... love it!

catenthusiast · 03/09/2018 18:54

I love going on my own! When my DH worked evening shifts I'd go to the cinema and have a glass of wine and then meet him at work (restaurant/bar) and have my dinner while he finished up. It was my favourite thing to do (and I'm occasionally a bit gutted he doesn't work shifts anymore because I miss having the excuse!)
