Can anyone explain 'KIT' days to me?

I am planning to do 10 Keeping in touch days before I return to my job part time, as I'd like to refresh my memory and the money would come in handy.

Do you continue to get normal SMP as well as the pay for the kit days, or is does SMP stop when you have a KIT day and you get that money instead?

Someone told me I should get both, but surely not?

What is within your contract?

Take a look at "Payment for KIT/SPLIT days" on this link

Hi thanks for your response.

My contract does not mention / cover KIT days.

I've read the piece on the link you posted before and I still don't understand, it says you keep entitlement to stat maternity pay and leave but it doesn't explain whether you get that money + your kit days paid extra.

You get your standard wage minus SMP if you are still receiving SMP when you take them.

I never took any because I didn't want to. But the general advice I got from colleagues was to wait until in the unpaid part of mat leave as then you get the full benefit. IE full pay.

When it says you keep your entitlement, it just means that you will keep getting it afterwards as if you hadn’t taken the KIT day, you don’t get paid both

You keep getting SMP. What other pay you get on top depends on your employer- there’s no set way of doing it. Most will ‘top up’ your SMP so that for the day you are at work, you receive the equivalent of normal pay.

I got paid for kit days on top of smp.

I got paid for them on top of smp

Lauren83 · 03/09/2018 19:42

I lost my smp (small amount) for the days I worked a KIT day

Pinkprincess1978 · 03/09/2018 19:50

Yep as most have said your employer will either top up your pay to full pay or deduct the SMP for a day and pay you full pay.

Pp is right it's financially better to be in mill pay when you do your kit days.

Also remember kit days are not a right. Employers don't have to give kit days, it has to work for both parties.
