Best SUV on a £10k budget?

Dream car is an Evoque. However I don't have Evoque money!

I want a car with a higher driving position and something fairly solid. No real requirements beyond that except that it needs to be under 3 years old...I've had older cars before that turned into complete money pits. My current v old car cost me £500 3 years ago but I've only spent £200 a year to get it through its MOT..however I'm passing it on to my DC when they pass their test shortly, so the time has come for something a bit nicer, newer, more powerful and bigger.

Any recommendations?

Dacia Duster!

You get a lot of car for the money!

Hyundai Santa Fe we got ours at 3 years old for just over £10k and love it

We have an Audi Q7 and absolutely love it. The Q5 (or Q3) is a similar, cheaper alternative if you don't need 7 seats. Whether it fits your 10k budget depends on the age & mileage you're after though. It'd probably be fairly old for 10k but they all looked very similar up until 2015ish anyway.

I have looked at a Duster but it seemed a bit basic, sorry, no refinements.

I don't need any more than 5 seats. In truth I don't need a massive SUV.

It does really need to be 3 years old or less which rules out an Audi or similar.

I don’t know whether a Qashqai would fit the bill, but you could try looking at prices for that age. I had one until June and there were many things I liked about it. The main reason I changed was the abysmal service in the local garage, so unless you live near me, you won’t have the same problem.

Peugeot 2008

I have a duster, the basic model is very basic but the higher models have quite a bit, mine has sat nav, reversing camera, media centre, cruise control, loads of stuff. Definately worth a second look

Qashqai or a Juke. Juke is very well specced for little money....why does it have to be less than 3 years old? Isn't a 6 year old with 30k miles better than a 3 year old with 75k? They would be around the same price.

Mitsubishi AXS

Really roomy, fun to drive and quite cheap to buy. There also aren't loads on the roads either!

SistersOfPercy · 03/09/2018 18:34

Avoid the Jeep Renegade. Thankfully we only leased ours. I hate it. Rattly, uncomfortable with a sat nav that only actually starts up when you're halfway there.
It goes back this month, I shall be doing a little dance down the drive when they come for it.

Gohackyourself · 03/09/2018 18:34

You will struggle to get a 3 yr old suv under 15 k tbh.

I’ve been searching and searching for similar to you.
Now I’ve actually bought new on finance as was actually far better deal.
You will probably be looking more at an 7-8 yr old suv with 10k sadly

MustBeThin · 03/09/2018 18:35

I got a Vauxhall Mokka SE for just over 11k, 3 years old with 4500 miles on the clock! Front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth, air con, heated seats and steering wheel.

SmellTheGlove · 03/09/2018 18:49

They no longer make them but Hyundai ix35 is a great crossover. We got a 2 year old ix35 for about 10k I think 4 years ago. The last ones were made in 2016 I think so you could look for one from around 2014/15? Hyundai's also have 5 year warranties so you might just get the end of one..

Gohackyourself · 03/09/2018 19:01

Mustbethin- I hope it came with a steering wheelGrin
I looked at a 3 yr old mokka but it was nearly 14k.
I wanted rear parking sensors an sat nav as basic so that influenced the suv choice.
You could probably find one cheap but won’t have all the jangles on it.
Dacia duster I did look at too but they felt a bit basic when driving them , similar to the mokka.
I loved the Skoda Karoq but the because their new this year you can only order new ones. In 3 years I will be looking for a karoq as lots of bang for your buck .
Just to add the most expensive suv 2nd hand seem to be the Nissan quashqui, everyone seems to have one so popular car but still expensive 2nd hand?!? If everyone’s got one I don’t know why they’re so expensive :-(
