I havent had more than 3 hours sleep for months plus hot flashes ten or 12 times a day.

I've totally had enough and going to the GP tomorrow.

Will hrt help?

Yep!

A return to decent sleep was the first thing I noticed.

It was taking me 5 or 6 attempts to go to sleep because as soon as I dozed off a massive night sweat would jolt me awake again. Then, when I did drop off, I was awake again after 3 hours.

My hot flushes were about one an hour but I could cope with them much better than the fecking night sweats.

But yes...HRT will help.

Silvercatowner · 03/09/2018 05:24

Probably, yes. I was similar - hot flushes every 20 minutes, night and day. It was destroying my mental health and I was struggling to continue working. I tried every OTC remedy going, nothing worked. Within 3/4 days of taking HRT my flushes were reducing and after a week or so they had completely stopped. The relief was enormous.

JillCrewesmum · 03/09/2018 05:27

I can cope with the flushes. It's the fecking sleep!! I'm sure I am going to start going mad very soon!

Could have written ^Silvercatowner*"s post word for word.

Will add that the difficulty getting to sleep combined with the interruption every 20 minutes meant being awake for hours and hours most nights. Sleep became 10-12 minute catnaps of sheer exhaustion and I felt unable to function as a normal human during the day as a result.

JillCrewesmum · 03/09/2018 07:43

Dh has just brought me a coffee and I feel destroyed.

I can't go on like this for years! It's hit me like a steam train. I felt fine then suddenly bam - hot flushes, no sleep

I was having 40-50 hot flushes a day before I started back on HRT now I have none. HRT has given me back my sanity.

JillCrewesmum · 03/09/2018 08:41

Did it take a long time before you got the right dosage? Did you have any side effects?

Does it just put this off until you come off it?

Op. Have a look at the menopause matters website. It’s so useful and the forum has some really knowledgeable ladies on there.

TillyVonMilly · 03/09/2018 08:52

I’ve been on hrt for a year, tried over the counter stuff, waste of money. After a few days the night sweats reduced and then stopped completely after two weeks. It was wonderful to not be drenched in sweat 💦 and sleeping makes a huge difference I changed the type of hrt, same dose but different brand, as I was struggling with mood swings, I’m six weeks into the new ones and I’m doing better.

JillCrewesmum · 03/09/2018 08:59

Oh god I don't want mood swings I'm bad enough as it is. Also my libido has disappeared Sad

HRT helps me, even a very low dose. I'm at risk for breast, cervical and colon cancerConfused so my GP gave me a low dose.

TillyVonMilly · 03/09/2018 09:18

Sorry Jill I never suffered pmt but I was full of hormonal rage at times. My libido had been sky high earlier in the summer but has now bombed, not sure if it’s the new tablets or just part of menopause joy I’m due back at the doctors in a few weeks so I shall be asking the question and see what she suggests Smile

JillCrewesmum · 03/09/2018 09:29

I just want to be able to sleep Sad I've had insomnia before but this is different

I've been trying to wear myself out on the day but it makes no difference.

I don't wake drenched in sweat, but my temperature just changes all night. One minute hot, one blessed minute cold.

Did it take a long time before you got the right dosage?
No

Did you have any side effects?
Not noticably, no.

Does it just put this off until you come off it?
I think you need to be careful. A couple of years ago I had to stop HRT because of high blood pressure and was back in hot flush hell. I resumed a month later when the BP was stablised. Last year I started cutting my tabs in half with no return of the flushes. I will start taking half a tab every other day and see what happens. But my dr agrees that the hot flushes have a more detrimental impact than HRT could and she is happy to keep prescribing for the forseeable future.

Elphame · 09/09/2018 11:21

HRT gave me my life back. I have no intentions of ever coming off it!
