Makes me glad I live in Ireland Shamrock. Lovely cat.

Blimey, I think I'd collapse on the spot!

Yogagirl123 · 02/09/2018 20:06

What a gorgeous cat. Looks like an adder to me, we see quite a few where we live.

Penfold007 · 02/09/2018 20:07

Hissing Sid!!!!

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 02/09/2018 20:08

Grass snake. As others have said those are the underbelly markings.

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 02/09/2018 20:09

Brave cat though! When I've seen cats meet snakes they've literally done the cartoon straight up in the air, turn, and whooooosh!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/09/2018 20:11

Definitely a grass snake, as others said the picture is confusing because it’s showing the underside mostly. We get a lot here as we’ve got a huge compost pile in a bit of woodland at the end of the garden. I made the same mistake once when trying to identify the first one I discovered (really didn’t want it to be an adder as we had dogs). The poor thing must have panicked because it regurgitated a half digested frog. I felt so guilty but it recovered and slithered off again. Phew.

HardAsSnails · 02/09/2018 20:12

Oh yes, so it is a grass snake. Phew.

This was a barred grass snake that drowned in our pond. It's markings look similar and it was surprisingly large,

I thought they could swim?

millymollymardy · 02/09/2018 21:52

Not when you've eaten a fish that's made you wider than the net over the pond.

Fluffyears · 02/09/2018 22:06

I think we need a trigger warning on this!

PutItAwayDear · 02/09/2018 22:10

A trigger warning for what?

The thread title makes it crystal clear that it's about snakes Confused

Anyway OP I'm also saying grass snake, adders are nowhere near that big! And I thought our cat was impressive when he caught a stoat Grin

HardAsSnails · 02/09/2018 22:30

Grin at trigger warning, FFS.
