Problems with car. How do I get it to the garage? Help!

I have a BMW. Just over 3 years old. One Friday night, and Saturday night, I got in to drive home and the engine wouldn’t start, or it started and then cut out. On both occasions when I went back in the morning it started after several attempts.

There’s clearly something wrong and I need to get it to the garage. Want to avoid paying to tow. Do have RAC cover but not sure if they’ll oblige as the car may start when they come out in which case they’ll presumably not tow? Also, if they do tow to the garage, do you have to go with them as I’ll be at work?

Thinking I might see if BMW will come and get it and tow but my emergency cover ran out in July.

Any other thoughts? Don’t want to drive it in case it cuts out somewhere precarious.

Call the RAC. Explain it's an intermittent problem, cutting out without warning etc. They're not going to think you're wasting time and want them to take a fully functioning car to a garage for the hell of it.

I would call BMW and say the car is just out of warranty, but as a goodwill gesture would they come out to your for no cost?
They might say yes.

Lots of garages will come and collect the car from you, (not tow, just drive). Perhaps explain to the garage what the issue is, they might have a solution?

Thanks everyone. Definite no from BMW re collecting or towing and £125 charge just to diagnose the problem! Have arranged to take it to a local garage instead.
