Fitting exercise in

Does anyone here manage to fit in exercise as early as 5:30am? If so, what time do you go to sleep? Needing to fit in some exercise but struggling to find any time as I start work early and I have many things on in the evenings meaning that I am often not home until 9pm! And would like some evening time to chill out.

I should add... if you do get up that early - how do you motivate yourself?

What do you want to achieve through exercise?

Make that your motivation.

I did weight lifting. You lift/squat etc with the heaviest weight that you can. You do no more than 20 minutes, you need to do it three times a week.

I asked this question a few weeks ago. If you search my name you should find the thread. It had lots of replies from people who did get up early.
Following that thread I did get up at 5 am for about a 2 weeks to exercise. It didn't last though but I'm starting again tomorrow.
My motivation comes from the way I'm currently feeling about myself. I used to be tiny (size 6-8) and very fit. Now I'm squeezing into much bigger clothes and feel so unfit and unhealthy. I'm not all that bothered about what size the labels say but I feel frumpy and a bit unhappy with it. I've been a sahm for years and I'm now going back to work, so I'm trying to motivate myself by combining the new job with new healthy habits. Been exercising and eating well for a few weeks now and feel much better in myself.

I used to get up at 6 for work, but changed to 5 to try and get in some exercise before I've woken up enough to talk myself out of it! Before work (and weekends) is the only time I can fit it in.

I get up at 5.30am, usually asleep around 9.30pm. Exercise stuff by the bed, drink some water and straight into it. Don't even allow yourself to think- if you think, you're screwed!

Think about how you transition into making it habit. It's a lot to just go full whack with an early start and (I'm guessing) a new exercise program. It really won't take long for the early starts to just feel like normal though especially if you're adjusting your bedtime.

Slimtimeagain · 02/09/2018 19:02

Thank you both. I'm thinking of aiming for 2 times this week rather than going full pelt into it. I'll have a glass of water on my bedside table so that I can have a drink straight away. I know once I'm up I'll be fine. I'm just terrible at getting up and I struggle going to bed early!

HIIT is your friend here - max benefit minimum time (although hard!).

Itsatravesty · 02/09/2018 19:10

I wake about 5.30am most days, get up have a coffee and do 30 min hiit work out. I usually do 30 mins in the evening if I have time too. Youtube is your friend. I don't actually want or need to be up that early that would be the menopause , but might as well put the time to good use. Usually asleep about 10.30/11pm.
