Inbuilt car seats

Why don't cars have inbuilt car seat options?
I just worked out it would not be that hard to do. Not for the first stage seats but certainly for the second front facing stage and the booster seat options...
How easy would life be if we were not constantly swapping bloody car seats? And no issues with public transport etc if tge seats were all inbuilt?

We have a car with in built booster seats, it's a Fiat freemont. We use them for visitors, very useful not having to carry a spare booster, but they are not recommended for all the time use as there's no back booster/side impact protection.

My mums Volvo has inbuilt booster seats.

I didn't realise you could already get these. Just got pissed off yesterday humphing car seats between cars! Such a faff..
Obviously safety for children first, but there should be an easier way! Loads of cars promoted as family vehicles.
Issues with storing car seats, the weight of lugging them around etc.
It just makes sense to me that cars should all have built in ones, if you don't need them just have them recessed into the seat....

Yeah some cars you can get them. Not as standard but are able to be ordered.
Cars aren’t made for families though even family cars. I’ve spent a lot of fine over the last 2 years looking for a car that really works with dc a mix of ages and it just doesn’t exist.

It seems so ridiculous. Who do car manufacturers/ designers think are using cars?
Even older people ( like my parents for example ) who don't live with young kids have grandchildren or would give neighbours ( with toddler ) a lift in the rain ( or whatever ) but not having a car seat handy means they can't be spontaneous about it.
I am no Jeremy Clarkson and give no shits about 0 to 60 in 10 seconds or whatever but most cars at some point in their usage must have children inside them at some point...

Surely it could affect the resale of the car though. They'd have to be an optional extra as there are people with no need for them who wouldn't want them and therefore shouldn't have to pay for them as no doubt the price of the car would go up. I wouldn't want to buy a car with built in car seats as I don't have children and have no need.

VW Sharan have had them for years. The booster was fine but I tended not to use the 5 point straps as they weren’t as good as a booster. Very good for emergency lifts though.

LIZS · 02/09/2018 09:19

They are an optional extra on some ford, vw and related cars.

My biggest annoyance when looking for a car as a s cons car for me to do the school run and get tow work in was the number of cars with back seats that nobody could actually do in because either there was no leg room at all or the roof slopes in a way even a child couldn’t sit there without banging their head. What is the point of the back seats then?
