Hate my haircut

Had my haircut yesterday and I hate it Sad I couldn't get an appointment with the last stylist I had so I picked an unknown. She didn't seem to really fit the 'look' of the salon (well known, has a brand of hair care products), but it didn't bother me at all. She didn't want to do exactly what I asked for (layers) as she said it wouldn't suit me, so I went along with it. She cut it a good couple of inches shorter than she said she would and I ended up with a bob to just below my ears. I thought it looked a bit odd because she'd blow dried it under, which was a bit too mature looking for me, but now I've had a go myself and it looks like I'm wearing a helmet.

There's just no living with this haircut. Once I'd admitted that to DH he agreed that it's not a good look. Should I ask my previous stylist to do it again for free? Is that acceptable? I'm not one to fuss but I can't afford to pay again for what I wanted in the first place, but maybe I should've just been more assertive and it's actually my fault?

Go back in, or call them if you feel to uncomfortable. Call in an asking to speak to the manager. Stay calm and collected and just explain what's happened and how you feel. It's not your fault you weren't more assertive, often until you try to do your hair yourself, even if you loved it when you left the salon, you won't know the extent of how much you dislike it.

Obviously there are limitations as to what they can actually do now to make it right. I guess the best you can hope for is styling tips until it grows a bit. Hopefully they'll speak to the stylist about client expectations and to listen more carefully.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do, it's a horrible situation. Not helpful I know but it will grow out soon. X

Kirby grips. Pin it up as much as possible and wait for it to grow. They can’t stick the hair back on and can’t do much to rectify it if it’s that short. Plus it would be really awkward sitting there having your hair fixed for free after you’ve complained. I doubt they’ll do their best to fix it after you’ve had an argument with them.

Definitely call up and tell them. This happened to me - a junior stylist fucked up the layers in my long hair, and a day later I called them and complained - a head stylist tidied it up for free.

I've never once in my life been happy with a haircut!! I don't even go to the hairdressers anymore! I'd say go back in if you have the confidence to?

PamPooveysCow · 02/09/2018 10:29

Thanks guys. I might ring my previous stylist in a day she's not in - from looking at their online booking system it looks like she only works two days a week. It's way too short, but I do think cutting layers in would help get rid of the helmet look. I'll just ask him if we can 'work something out' - I'm not ballsy enough to ask for it free! Blush

I’d just ring and say it’s not what I wanted and not what I asked for. I really don’t like it and I’d be happy to come back and get them to rectify it.

Dowser · 02/09/2018 10:34

Love to see what it’s like and what you really wanted

I have this situation too. Went to a new stylist, highly recommended. Asked for a graduated bob which was a restyle, told her she could take off as much as she likes as wasn't worried if it was a bit short as hadn't had it cut in ages.

She took this somehow to mean she could do a total restyle, ignoring my instructions for a graduated bob and gave me a really short full fringe ('vintage style') and crappy long bob that needs turned in to look half decent (I do not have time to do this!)

I look like fucking worzel gummidge. The fringe is so short that she cut my hair 8 weeks ago and it still isn't long enough to wear as a side fringe and pokes out when I pin it back. Every day I look in the mirror and hate what I see Sad

When I straighten it, it just sticks out in a triangle shape!

Many, many Kirby grips are needed.
