Have just been sorting out my bedding cupboard
I started the putting a whole bedding set in one pillowcase last year and it is SO much easier when changing all the beds

Also sprinkling bicarbonate over wiffy mattresses and hoovering up later on

And of course ZOFLORA Flowers

My DDs were astonished (as was I!) at how good talc is for de-sanding after the beach.

Oliphantintheroom · 01/09/2018 17:40

Love the washing liquid for play dough/sudocream nightmares and freezing slices of lemon/lime

Washing liquid is good for getting stains out, not all but most, just a squeeze and work in before chucking it in the wash

Thanks, annelovesgilbert!

if you like to read in the bath and wear glasses, dunk them in the hot bath water and dry them. they won't steam up. this one has been a game changer for me!

misstblue2 · 01/09/2018 18:24

double foundation?
what all that about

Bobbiepin · 01/09/2018 20:25

Double wear is a brand. It's estee lauder I think.

TheLastNigel · 02/09/2018 04:04

Yes to the pillow case thing. Life changing.

LordEmsworth · 02/09/2018 06:53

The conditioner thing is just to keep a comb by the shower, and when you put conditioner on, comb it through rather than just rub it in. Then rinse as normal. It makes a massive difference to how effective the conditioner is...

Push in the little cardboard circles on the sides of foil and cling film containers to hold the roll in place. (Thank you to a MN granny for recommending that.

bumblingbovine49 · 02/09/2018 07:10

I do the when beddi g set together thing but I just roll the sheets and pillow cases inside the duvet so they are all in on bundle. I dont iron bedding and I couldn't fit my king size duvet so nsude a pillowcase but the principle of keeping a set all together is the same and it is much easier.

I also keep a maximum of three sets per bed. One one on, one in the wash and one spare for emergencies (sickness/accidents etc. Only the spare sets and the sofa bed sets are in the airing cupboard. One clean set for changing the bed is always kept in the appropriate bedroom so (under the bed or in a wardrobe etc). I hate changing the beds so having a clean bedding set in the same room makes it psychologically easier for me to get started than having to collect them from a cupboard somewhere else.

I also did the layering several waterproof sheets and bedding on the bed when DS was wetting the bed a lot years ago. Just strip off the wet layers l, put in wash and go back to bed. No making up the bed at night

If you spill something that might stain (eg coffee, tea or red wine) on a carpet. Get lots of kitchen roll and put it on the stain (quickly after spilling it) in a thickish layer. Covering all the spill. Stand on the kitchen roll and walk around on it/stamp it down hard with your foot When the paper is wet through,. replace with more and do the same again, repeat until the kitchen towel comes away dry. The stain should be gone. No need to scrub it with water/cleaner as this always seems to spread the stain for me.

This really works and astonished methoygh it does use a lot of kitchen towel so maybe not ecologically the best Blush

Taking an extension lead on holiday. One adapter plug in the wall along with extension lead means you have 4 British plug sockets for chargers, hair dryers etc and no need to buy lots of foreign plug adapters. Game changer.

bluetrampolines · 02/09/2018 07:28

In all seriousness, that my abusive h wasnt going to change and to throw him out.

Zoflorabore · 02/09/2018 07:28

Oh place marking for later.

I love these threads and zoflora

motortroll · 02/09/2018 07:30

@bumblingbovine49 I do the same method but I don't buy kitchen roll so I use some old terry nappies I have, anything super absorbent will do.

Hassled · 02/09/2018 07:31

Using wet dishwasher tablets to scrape the gunk off the inside of an oven door. It works a treat and is the sort of task you can get good and obsessed about.

BikeRunSki · 02/09/2018 07:36

I do the soup thing, also similar for crumbles. When the dc take a couple of nibbles out of an apple or pear etc then don’t finish it, I slice up the rest and put in a bag in the freezer. Same with other freezable fruit that is going to waste. I use this for crumbles.

I also freeze overripe banana for banana bread.

Kintan · 02/09/2018 07:40

I read a tip on MN for curing plantar fasciitis- as soon as you wake up pick up a pencil with the toes of the affected foot and raise your leg 20 or so times - it worked!

StereophonicallyChallenged · 02/09/2018 07:42

Using conditioner before shampoo when washing hair.
Best tip I've ever had, no longer get greasy hair that needs washed (Wink) every 24 hours.

Kintan · 02/09/2018 07:46

I’ve thought of two more- a poster complained that no matter what brand she used her nail varnish never stayed on long. People suggested she had oily nail beds and to use nail varnish remover directly before applying the varnish. I had the same problem but that did the trick!
The other one I’ve found has worked for me is using conditioner before shampoo - this has made my fine hair seem much thicker :)

BeverlyGoldberg · 02/09/2018 07:49

There's so many! Every time I feel like flouncing I remember:

London and Country mortgages, sorted out our mortgage and house purchase brilliantly

Combing through conditioner

Heated airer

Peeling off baby vests from the shoulder down after a poo

"No" is a complete sentence. Although this annoys me when it is overused, it has helped me stop justifying myself in a way that men don't feel they have to.

troodiedoo · 02/09/2018 07:51

paracetamol to clean scorch marks on an iron. be very careful not to burn your fingers though.

bumblingbovine49 · 02/09/2018 07:53

motortroll That is a good tip. Maybe normal towels would work . I have a few old ones I keep around for dirty jobs. (Afraid DS is way past nappies) Grin
