BITCOIN Query

ARoomSomewhere · 31/08/2018 21:27

Ds (13) has a Bitcoin account with Coinbase.

He has £7 in his account he wants to get out.
But he has none of the ID needed (ie passport/driving licence / ID card)
I can use my driving licence but obvs my name is not his.

Anyway round this? I have a very frustrated 13 yr old?

(nb: he needs the £7 apparantly and he has mined it from scratch :)

I think he will need the ID I'm afraid.

Tell him to keep it in the account. Have you seen the predictions? Could be worth a fortune soon.

Where did a 13-year-old get the money to mine bitcoin?!? Unless I'm missing something, cheapest subscriptions are usually hundreds of $. If he has that money, I'd not be too worried about £7....

AnalUnicorn · 31/08/2018 22:18

@mouseholecat. You don’t need a subscription to mine bitcoin, but you do need powerful hardware.

How much did it cost you in electric to mine that bitcoin?

MouseholeCat · 31/08/2018 22:22

@AnalUnicorn I probably should have used contract (e.g. for cloud-based). The argument still stands- surely that would be a pretty big electricity bill?

You may have a problem as the user agreement says you must be 18 or over: www.coinbase.com/legal/user_agreement?locale=en
The rule changed in July 2017: support.coinbase.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2034490-can-i-open-a-coinbase-account-if-i-m-under-18-. If you contact them they might help you withdraw the funds (though they might require a passport etc.), but will probably also close his account.

Thanks everyone.

Maybe i need to open an account and he can transfer it to mine and withdraw it that way?

Yy powerful hardware. He's Aspergers. Built his own server while i was away for the weekend. Next weekend came home from an afternoon at the shops and he'd 'rewired' the house by putting extension cables out through all the windows etc. That was fun in the cold weather. He wasnt alone btw. HIs Dad was there watching TV and not paying attention.
