Could this be a cold sore?!

Yesterday part of my lip felt really sore, almost like it was bruised.

This morning I had a spot, a big sore white head type spot. I squeezed and not much came out. It's now red and no more puss seems to have formed in the spot. It's still really sore.

I'm 39 and never had a cold sore before. Been with DH for 13 yrs and definitely not kissed anyone else.

If I have got a cold sore, how could this have happened?

From Google...

"They can also be spread by sharing a cup, eating utensils, or lip balm or lipstick with someone who has it."

A cold sore really hurts, but not like a spot. It tingles and throbs, and the would be no white puss if you squeeze, just clear liquid. It would then crust over after a few days before healing.

Doesn't sound like what you have.

Also, you could have got the virus years ago.

Could be, if it's an open sore then don't kiss/ share drinks or anything and keep it slathered in Vaseline or any of the coldsore creams to keep it moist and avoid scabbing.

If you've any vodka, put some on tissue and hold it to your lip for a couple of minutes. That should kill it if it is a coldsore. It'll sting but the pain should go away altogether. Or alternatively, ice!

Did it feel tingly when it came up? I think you can catch the virus from cups, towels etc but usually the first infection involves a temp and generally feeling rubbish. You might have had the virus for a while and it's remained dormant.

I currently have a cold sore but I've had the virus since childhood. I've been really careful not to infect the rest of the family or to touch my eyes.

Or it could be just a pimple that hurts as it's been squeezed. Put some ice on it for the pain/ or painkillers
