What was your best first date?

I have been reading the worse first date stories and wondered about the best dates you have all had.

Mine was when I had just left home and come to London as a late-teenager. I met an American businessman - so handsome - at a tourist attraction on my day off. (he seemed so sophisticated in his mid-twenties, whereas I was a very naive bumpkin). He was only in London for a week and was at the end of it, so there was only going to be one date. He asked me out that evening and I agreed to meet him.

We met up as agreed and walked along the river, talking. He made me feel so interesting and attractive- I hadn’t had a proper boyfriend and had always thought I was a rather awkward person. At the end of the evening, by the Thames, he kissed me - the most gentle kiss - and told me what a lovely memory the evening would be for him. And that was it. He went back to the states and I never saw him again.

I do cherish that memory now, nearly 40 years later!

Mine was when I went out with a guy and decided I would drink what he was drinking, I ended up being sick down the stairs in a bar, he took me home, covered me up on his sofa with a duvet and drove me home in the morning.

We then tried another date the next night, which went much better...

12 years on we are married with 2 lovely children.

With DH.
First time I met him I thought he was an arse.
But, he persuaded me to have lunch with him and in fact took me a village in the Peak District for said lunch.
We spent hours together laughing and talking (he claims I talked nonstop), went back to his, never left and married 9 weeks later.

I met DP in a pie and pints type real ale pub. We got tipsy, talked for four hours, walked back to his house, talked for another three hours and then I jumped on him. In the morning, he made me coffee and held my hand to walk me to the bus stop.

It was excellent.
