Is this song a parody?

I heard a song on the radio the other day. It’s called ‘I’m your boyfriend now’ and it’s by a band called Tall Pony.

The lyrics are interesting to say the least! Was this song released in an ironic way or as a joke reference to something I’ve missed. I’ve done a google search and couldn’t find any information.

I'm not sure but it 1st played on BBC Radio 1s Huw Stephens radio show at the end of October 2006. I don't think the BBC play many parodies, but then I don't listen to it.

The track became the year's most requested song on his show and subsequently was voted number 1 in the inaugural Dandelion Radio Festive Fifty for 2006.
