Yesterday i got am email from my provider about upgrading to a Smart meter. Today i got a call asking to make an appointment to install one. I said no thank you, knowing i dont have to take one.

But do i need one? I have a prepayment meter and only electric no gas.

Any advice?

The government have given suppliers a time limit on installing them I believe. It’s not for a few years though.

I’m holding on until the next gen machines are out, as the current ones are fixed to supplier. Change supplier and you’ll need a new machine.

Im gonna hold off until i have to.

Does it depend on mobile signal or/and wifi? Being in the sticks, mobile signal is very poor - as poor as going to the next village to sometimes pick up signal?

Do you rent or own?
Smart meters are the bane of my life as I rent and can’t give permission for one to be installed... not that the call centre people accept that as an answer!

We own.

We also rent out 2 properties and from my understanding, my tenants can have them installed without my permission but its and obligation for them to tell me. I have no authority to tell them they cannot have one.
