I think I've just met one of the MIL's of mumsnet

I'm in work and have just been admiring a v cute and chunky 5mo baby. She was with her gran who said she's going to sneak her to the clinic because she thinks her dil is overfeeding her Shock

She spoke about her son (baby's dad) in a loving and admiring way, obviously he could do no wrong.

I'd be furious if I found out my MIL or dm had taken my baby to a clinic without my permission!

Oh dear. I'd hate to be in the vicinity of the DIL when she finds out.

Bobbiepin · 30/08/2018 13:44

Obviously DS has no role in feeding the kid then!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 30/08/2018 13:48

Grin I was thinking this the other day when I was eavesdropping on three older ladies out having tea together. The phrases 'daughter-in-law', 'rod for her own back' and 'so I told her I was only trying to help' were used A LOT!!

No clinic I ever went to would accept a total random dropping in with a child. Hope she’s told to get to fuck.

Crunchymum · 30/08/2018 15:32

She is a fucking nut job.

You need the baby's red book and even if you go for just a weight check you see a HV and have a chat and it's all recorded in the red book

Even if this MIL manages to sneak the baby and the red book out, and hide the notes in the book tears them out she will not be able to stop the HV contacting the mother [the HV will no doubt contact the mother to tell her that her MIL is an interfering old bag!!]

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 30/08/2018 16:02

Christ, I admit that some DIL's can be absolute knobbers but women like that give MIL's a bad name.

Mine used to say that DS2 was too fat when he was just a few weeks old. He was 10lb at birth so wasn't ever going to be petite, but she was all "breastfeeding isn't best, he's obviously overfeeding" and ranting that some baby rice would get him over his hunger faster than breastmilk could. Madness.

Davros · 30/08/2018 16:46

Maybe she was just showing off? I hope

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 30/08/2018 16:49

I was talking to some friends about my daughter in law today. I said that if I had chosen a partner for my son, she would be the one I chose. I’ve told her that too.

I wouldn’t think of criticising a parenting decision made by either of them.

What did you say when she told you that?

I don't think I would have been able to resist saying something like 'Well, she won't like that, will she?'.

Goodness me. My DGD is 5 months and lovely and chubby, she is rolling around and on the verge of crawling. She needs that fat to be able to burn it off when she starts zooming around.

I don't think it is actually possible to overfeed a baby of that age anyway.

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/08/2018 17:02

I met one a few weeks back! She’s not a fan of her husband’s partner and was bragging about the white outfit she’d bought the previous week for their wedding.

My jaw dropped and I said “wow, that’s an unusual choice, does DIL know...?” and she beamed and no but it’s her day too and she wants to look special.

WTBE · 30/08/2018 17:10

Oh wow. That will not end well!

I met a MN MIL once, who told me that her son's partner did not want her baby having a dummy from birth, then proceeded to pull out a dummy and said but what mummy don't know won't hurt her!!

BlueEyedBengal · 30/08/2018 17:31

I am not a g m or a m I l not have one, but this would make me so explode I would never let her have the baby again. What is wrong with a chubby baby anyway? a baby should be that way shouldn't they?Hmm

DaanSaaf · 30/08/2018 18:07

mermaid I said surely it's not possible to overfeed a baby of that age, they just feed on demand? She replied that dil was feeding her 3 meals a day plus 7oz bottles. I think I rolled my eyes at that point and walked away.

I wonder if she managed to see anyone and if they gave her short shrift.

Hasbro · 30/08/2018 22:44

All the 5month old babies i know have been chubby. Mine were so cute and chubby nearly ate them in all their cuteness.
