How do you explain to your 5 year old that Netflix UK took their favourite show away?

Paw Patrol gone now. WHY? It's not like it's an unpopular show.

Does Netflix not understand the utter havoc this causes?

Can they not watch something else
Or watch it on YouTube?

ShreddedFeet · 30/08/2018 08:40

Justbyell them it's the wnd of the eun/series and it will be back at some point in the future. Meanwhile find something else to fill the gap.

It worked for me as a kid when crackerjack, Bagpuss and Mr Ben came to a stop between series. I wasn't happy but as there wasnt other options learnt that it was just how it worked eventually. I can remember my excitement comingb home from infant school on a Friday night to a new series of Crackerjack!

Youtube is fucking evil.

No, really - NO responsible parent should ever let their child watch Youtube unsupervised even for 5 minutes, let alone half an hour while making food. Even on Youtube kids they do not prescreen all the fucked up shit, they only remove it after a distraught parent has contacted them saying "why the fuck is evil dentist torturing Peppa?"

That aside - do you know many 5 year olds? Substituting your favourite show doesn't work well for 35 year olds, let alone 5 year olds.

"Sorry sweetheart its not on anymore."

Life skills..

widgetbeana · 30/08/2018 08:42

A 5 year old should be capable of understanding things aren't permanent, I can understand a 2 year old having trouble understanding and being upset, but a 5 year old should have the capability to understand.

cucumbergin · 30/08/2018 08:42

And yeah - I know eventually he'll watch something else, but it's still bloody annoying. Especially as most of the "something else's" have apparently been removed at the same time.

Found this which looks helpful: uk.newonnetflix.info/lastchance/s

‘It’s not on there anymore, let’s try.....’

And then find other things and watch them together.

My 5yo likes:
Odd Squad
Animal Mechanical
Miraculous
Horrible Histories to name a few

Or stuck a film on? They have all the Shreks on there at the moment.

Buy a DVD

EwItsAHooman · 30/08/2018 08:49

Nick Jr usually has loads of episodes on both live TV and catch up if you've got access to that.

Doje · 30/08/2018 08:49

Isn't it still on Channel 5? We watch it and don't have Netflix....

tomhazard · 30/08/2018 08:49

Hmm my 5 year old would understand and accept 'Sorry, they don't show this on Netflix anymore, why don't you watch x, y or z instead?
I think my 3 year old would probably get over this quite quickly too.

I can't work out if this is lighthearted or not, but if it's not then it's one of the biggest 1st world problems I've seen for a while.

ProfessorMoody · 30/08/2018 08:50

Tell them?

DisgustedofSouthend · 30/08/2018 08:50

How about terrestrial channels?

DisgustedofSouthend · 30/08/2018 08:51

or go and buy a dvd ?

thaegumathteth · 30/08/2018 08:52

Errrrm

Abra1de · 30/08/2018 08:52

It’s a good lesson in resilience.

DVD?

JumblieGirl · 30/08/2018 08:53

I’m with Banana, buy a dvd. Or six. It’s also a lesson in how digital streaming can be an unreliable source for an addict.

Shoxfordian · 30/08/2018 08:54

Read them a book instead?

eurochick · 30/08/2018 08:54

How can this be an issue? Things come and go on tv. They always have. Just tell them and suggest something else.

dingdongdigeridoo · 30/08/2018 08:55

I think it’s on amazon prime video. You might be able to get a free trial.

DonnaDarko · 30/08/2018 08:55

Check Amazon prime video if you have that. Alternatively, I'm sure you can get the DVDs.

Ullupullu · 30/08/2018 08:57

My five year old "understands" this sort of thing just fine. What doesn't he understand? How are you trying to explain it?

Batteriesallgone · 30/08/2018 08:57

Is this a joke?

I can’t quite sense the tone right, I think. Usually I like a jokey shit parenting thread

kimlo · 30/08/2018 08:58

have you got amazon prime? They are.on there.
