This is my first try at posting but wanted to give it a try to see if anyone has been through a similar experience. My son was born a week ago and suffered oxygen deprivation due to my uterus rupturing. I'm now stable but he is very poorly.....does anyone have any advice on how to cope with this trauma or ideas about support groups who can help me and my husband make sense of the situation.....I feel very isolated, alone and overwhelmed :(

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I haven't been in the same situation but I'm giving you a bump in the hope that someone more experienced will see your post Thanks

In the meantime, would you like to tell us a bit more about your son?

mikeTV · 30/08/2018 02:50

I'm so sorry, that must have been really traumatic. I'm glad you are recovering now, is your little boy on NICU? Is he on cooling treatment?

I know there's a charity that may/may not be relevant, it's hie-peeps for families of babies who have experienced hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy - link to their fb page below.

Little one was born on the 22nd and was immediately taken to a level three hospital. Unfortunately we were separated for 2 days as I was still in surgery when they took him. He has been in NICU since being born. Baby has had 72 hours of cooling treatment and is now fully warmed. He's come off his ventilator but is still being assisted with breathing as he is on medication to surpress seizures. The doctors and nurses have been incredible but cant explain why certaim things are happening. We have no idea how much he will be affected by the lack of oxygen. I just don't want to disintegrate every time I see him. Thank you so much for the replies/suggestions. Just knowing others have been through this before me is a comfort.

Oh bless you what an awful time you are having. It must be v scary. The long term outlook for your little one will be unknown at this stage so try to take it one day at a time as indeed there is no other way anyway.
I have no direct experience so hopefully others will be along today to offer something more helpful but just saying i am thinking of you all and hoping for a good outcome x

We had a long NICU journey and met other babies who'd had lack of oxygen like your son on the way. It's great that he's off the ventilator- that's the first big step.

Is there a parent support group at your hospital? They can be great. Also please contact the HIE PEEPS & Bliss charities- they will want to help/support you
