Mumsnetters! DH is having his appendix removed tomorrow. How long is the recovery time and what pain will he be in? We're supposed to be going to Peppa Pig World on Sunday (non refundable tickets 😭) Is that likely?? Thank you for any advice!

Based on my experience that is unlikely! I was in hospital for 3 days post operation and then off work for 3 weeks. The first week back was hard and I was in a proper fog, with hindsight another week would have helped.

MyDH had his out in February No way should your DH be walking around on Sunday. The poor an needs time to recover and heal.

Mehaveit · 29/08/2018 23:10

Ah shit. As expected really. Will see if I can flog them then.

Hope you/your DH recovered OK.

I had my appendix out a few months ago, no complications. Week 1 - off work, in bed for about four days feeling really very ill, then much better but only able to do short walks. Week 2 - working from home but still couldn't walk far and dizzy. Week 3 - back to work but still dizzy and tired and with hindsight should have stayed at home. Good luck!

I had appendicitis last Christmas, luckily I didn't have to have the appendix out (long story short I went to hospital with an overbearing pain in my side on 19th December and on 21st December I was offered the operation but id be in over xmas.so I refused and the antibiotics got.rid of the infection and I was discharged on 23rd)

I was unable to move properly until the new year so I imagine an operation for it would be 10x worse.

Oh and another question. We're booked to go away for a spa weekend for his birthday 8/9 September. Are there any swimming restrictions i.e. can't go in the water rather than actual swimming? I've booked him a full body massage. Is that going to be a no no too?

Peppa Pig will be a big no

8/9th Sept maybe as the hospital if the skin will have heeled enough. Once the skin has knitted together its fine to swim.

My wound was big as it was open surgery rather than most other people who end up with keyhole. But i was certainly swimming within 6 weeks.

AvoidingDM · 29/08/2018 23:38

The issue with swimming pools is you dont want to get an infection in the wound.

Mehaveit · 29/08/2018 23:52

Yes that's what I thought re actually getting into water.

It'll be keyhole fortunately.

I'm presuming a massage would be limited in its 'full body' scope?
