Why is my mooncup giving me thrush now?

I've used it for about 5 years, clean and sterilise it regularly etc. Then 4 periods on the trot I developed thrush each time I used it.

Last period I switched back to pads and was fine but I don't want to use those longterm again.

I wash it out with water during the day and sterilise in boiling water as per instructions. Any ideas what might be going wrong?

I put mine in the dishwasher.

Are you definitely clearing the thrush up between periods. It could be harbouring up near your cervix. If I was in your shoes I’d prob do a treatment of thrush stuff twice and leave a period between.

Mine gave me ongoing thrush after a year or two. I just gave up with it I'm afraid.

I had this problem. Got a new cup and it stopped.

I'd read that it's very hard to clear thrush from the cup, even with boiling. No idea if that's true, but a new cup totally stopped the problem for me.

I've never heard of washing in the dishwasher, but this has been ok'd by DH so I'm well happy. Sorry OP, hope thrush buggers off ASAP!

The dishwasher 😫

I smear my mooncup with Canestan between the scrubbing and the sterilisation stage when this starts being a problem. Seems to do the trick.

Yes, the dishwasher, aka the big machine that spends a good two hours cleaning and sterilising stuff.

I’ve had the same mooncup for many years (actually I’ve just, after four births and my youngest being 13 months) bought a new one, because it’s a bigger size. The old one I had from 18/19. It’s still fine.

I honestly can’t see why you’d do anything else with it. I clean it in the bath during my menses and then it gets a last soak with me then gets put in the dishwasher and drawer ready for next month.
