Ikea complaints / compensation

Ikea have screwed up on an order for a new kitchen, causing a big delay to the project and much additional stress and expense. We have a complaint in, just wondering if anyonr has been through the process and can give us an idea of what to expect.

Ikea ballsed up our kitchen order recently by sending no legs. Their kitchen planner didn’t order any. We had to go to store to collect. They compensated us for fuel on a per mile basis but no compensation for time incurred. We also had to buy the legs, as they were not on the original order.

Their planner had also put in lots of “filler pieces” in between each cupboard, which if we had actually used them, would have increased the length of the cabinet runs to the point of barely being able to get in through the door. These were duly returned. And with all the other random stuff that had been ordered (ie 2 sink base units, wtf?). Got over £700 back off this little lot.

That's interesting Cucurbita, thanks. In our case they actually delivered us half of someone else's kitchen as well as our own, and our dopey builder built and installed bits of both orders while we were away. We're now having to dismantle half the finished kitchen to put it right Angry which is causing ridiculous amounts of stress.

Oh bloody hell, that sounds awful. Makes my tale sound tame.

I can not tell you how many things went wrong with our Ikea kitchen when we had it fitted last December. It was so, so stressful it actually made me ill. We had absolutely no joy getting ANY compensation and in the end, for the sake of my mental health, I had to draw a line under it and stop pursuing our complaint. 7 months on and there are still things not right with the kitchen and other bits falling apart and I actually hate it so much.
I will never, ever, ever buy anything from Ikea again. Sad

Sorry to hear that marvelous, sounds like a total nightmare. Hope you've been able to draw a line under it. Utterly enraging though.

Waited 8 weeks for a ikea sofa only to find out the order hadn't been done properly. Had to then wait a further 8 weeks. Complained and got £100 voucher.

Thanks Junebug. I think Inmight know you from your username, do you have a son E?

Ikea repeatedly messed up an order for a dining table for us. And then delivered the bloody thing twice.

They didn't turn up on two slots to collect the table so told me to keep it and gave me a £40 voucher. Table was worth couple of hundred but I'm in the arse end of nowhere so they must have just decided it wasn't worth their while!

When we ordered our kitchen, I did the design myself in their program and every single item was listed in the printout. Didn’t you get the very same thing at Ikea? I’m pretty sure they are there to help you and you use you, but they don’t take responsibility like at other places, and you have to double check your order.

Why didn’t your builder check what came against what was ordered, box by box, before he started? Confused so easy to do with Ikea boxes.

Help you and assist you... 😁

LaDaronne · 30/08/2018 07:12

We did get the list, DH queried the delivery as he could see there were too many boxes but the delivery team just said that was what was on their docket. Builder is a dick too for not checking, of course.

In OPs defence, the drivers tend to insist it's all right and disappear as quickly as possible.

When an entire table got delivered for me again along with the half that was missing, I pointed out that I only needed one package and he told me I was wrong and this was just the 2nd half of my table. I said again that the table had two boxes and I already had one, and he checked his sheet, told me I was wrong, and went on his way so I don't think it would have made any difference.

Your builder actually installing some of it though....! I'd be a bit mad about that!
