What were your feelings on putting your baby into a day nursery?

My son is 10 months and today was his first settling in day at nursery , I'm back at work on Monday. He will be there full-time.

I feel guilty , confused and slightly concerned that he wouldn't take a bottle properly from the staff member that fed him today!

The nursery comes highly recommended, is right by my place of work and they kept him safe today when I left him to go and have a coffee and let him settle with them. So I'm fully aware they they did a good good.

What I'd like to know is how soon you felt 'okay' with having your baby at nursery and if it's normal to feel the way I do on a settling in day!

Thanks.

Always feels a bit weird, especially if you haven’t had much time during ML away from the DC with other people looking after them

Then you get used to it

I suppose I am second time around now, with an older DC as well so now it tends to be you have that level of trust they are going to do their job otherwise you wouldn’t have picked it, and off you scoot to work - so fairly quickly tbh

Then sometimes - for example, if they get nappy rash badly - you worry whether everything is ok, have a discussion whether things are working ok and what needs to change

I spent about 2 weeks crying when I left dc1, he never cried when dropped off, only pick up for a few weeks. One day one of the staff told me to wait and then look in the window. He was absolutely fine and it really helped. I also switched to working mornings so knew I would pick him up after lunch.

Now he was supposed to stop nursery while I was on maternity leave with dc2 but he loves it so much that we're stretching ourselves to keep him in a few mornings a week. He walks in and off without even saying goodbye Hmm

Thanks all , I really need to read these positive experiences.

I've only had a couple of hours away from him once during ML , he was with my mother.

I've done this nursery thing before but only with my eldest dc who is now a teenager. With the middle one I was lucky enough to stay at home until they were at school.

I think the baby is coping better than I amSmile
