My daughter takes these for anxiety and depression, but is having horrific and vivid nightmares.

She now has major insomnia and is too scared to sleep.

We will be discussing with the GP, but have any of you swapped from these drugs for similar reasons, and seen a benefit from a different kind?

Nightmares can be a side effect of propranolol. They stop when you stop the drug. She should discuss with the GP, and may decide to just continue the antidepressant alone.
The propranolol is just used to block the effects of adrenaline- it prevents the fast heartbeat and sweaty faintness of panic attacks, but that’s really just masking symptoms rather than treating the condition. She may find that CBT plus antidepressants is more effective. There are also online resources for managing anxiety, that are quite good.

Thank you - she is having counselling and psychology treatment too.
