Very tempted but, y'know, ouch and all that.

Didn’t have it for migraines so can’t help there, just like how it looks.
I’ve read a lot online that it’s helped others though.

MrsTeach · 28/08/2018 21:33

I had mine done just under a year ago.
I suffer horribly from stress related and hormone related migraines.

I believe that the piercing has helped me massively! My stress migraines are few and far between now as opposed to twice a week at least!

It does nothing for the hormone related ones but I didn't expect it to.

As for the pain of the piercing, it really wasn't that bad and I'm terrible with pain! It's more just uncomfortable and makes an odd POP sound as the needle goes through.

So worth it though!

sorry but it's not done a thing for my migrianes Sad

FaithInfinity · 28/08/2018 22:48

Had mine done last year when I was getting loads of migraines (Ill with other stuff and it was a knock on effect). Went from having 2 a week to having had 3 in a year. It smarted when it went it but it wasn’t for long. Bit tender as it healed but really not too bad. Cartilage higher up was far worse!

DramaAlpaca · 28/08/2018 22:50

My niece got hers done for migraines. She says it has reduced the frequency and the severity. Even if it doesn't work it'll still look good so worth doing IMO.

FesteringCarbuncle · 28/08/2018 22:52

Yes
It has changed my life
I know 5 people, including me, who it for migraine. 3 of us it has been life changing, 1 had a reduction in severity and frequency and 1 it made no difference
Supposedly it works best if your migraine is over the eye and you have it on your worst side
That is true for me
It didn't hurt much but I did have a migraine at the time. I love the look of it but it takes some time to heal. I looked after it carefully and used seasalt water to clean

FesteringCarbuncle · 28/08/2018 22:54

It is a bit crunchy as the needle goes through
Its also addictive. I've since had my tragus done and just had my helix but this is my last
If my migraine came back on the other side I would definitely get my other daith done but I prefer not to have symmetry

crocsaretoocoolforschool · 28/08/2018 23:09

It changed my life!

And hurt a lot less than a cartilage piercing or a migraine -could sleep on that side the first night I had it done

Had a bar for piercing then changed to a ring at 6 months

QueenofLouisiana · 28/08/2018 23:15

I’ve had one migraine in the 2 years since I had mine done. Much less severe, more of the aura than the pain.

I’d agree with PPs who say that cartilage piercings hurt far more. The daith was a quick “oh!” And it was done. I could sleep on it within a few days. It healed within about 7 months, rather than a year for my helix.

SouthWestmom · 28/08/2018 23:21

Oh that's really interesting, seem like most people have had a positive outcome?

I might brave it, my migraines have me lying on the floor at work sometimes

crocsaretoocoolforschool · 29/08/2018 00:00

What have you got to lose? It's about £20 so if it doesn't work it's not the end of the world

WhatsYourFuckingProblem · 29/08/2018 06:42

I found it quite painful to have pierced and felt weird all day afterwards, had a couple more tattoos done yesterday and that was much more bearable!
Pain is subjective though isn’t it. For me, childbirth wasn’t so bad but I was having cold sweats at the Dr when I needed a tiny piece of glass removing from my foot Grin

frogprincess84 · 29/08/2018 06:45

I would love to have it done as I have terriblenstrrss migraines but sadly my ear shape means I don't seem to have anything there to pierce! I think it can't do any harm - if it doesn't help your migraines it still looks nice

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/08/2018 06:50

I had mine done . Helped a little bit to start with but back to normal migraine in no time. I think that it depends what type of migraine , cause etc. It hurt when I had it done but fine afterwards. What harm can it do to give it a go ?

MrsTeach · 29/08/2018 07:27

Make sure you get the piercing on the same side as where you get the migraines!

SouthWestmom · 29/08/2018 08:04

Good point , mine are on my right.

Im very tempted - my only worry is if it could somehow make it worse. Like if it's the wrong spot.

OP posts:
Loyaultemelie · 29/08/2018 09:47

I have had around 3 + migraines a week and although it hasn't reduced the frequency a huge amount although interestingly it did for the first 3 weeks, it has made a huge difference to the severity.
It didn't hurt at all to get done, despite the piercer (?) warning me, I was looking out the window kind of braced for it and he said "wow you took that well" so I hadn't even noticed thought he was still messing about with the marker getting the location sorted. I did feel a sort of pressure release though and only had one migraine for three weeks. It does sometimes make odd fistley sounds like ears popping though (maybe that's just me?)

SilverHairedCat · 29/08/2018 09:54

It's a nice piercing.

Did fuck all for my migraines. Can't make them worse though. No clinical evidence exists of them working or not, it's all anecdotal.

WhatsYourFuckingProblem · 29/08/2018 09:56

Just been looking on BMG Jewellery website for something I’m going to change mine for when the time comes.
I’ve only had mine a month though so long wait yet.

SouthWestmom · 29/08/2018 16:46

@SilverHairedCat I read that, so I posted to see what people said anecdotally.

I've had one piercing infection so a bit cautious now. Although that was a lobe.

OP posts:
SilverHairedCat · 29/08/2018 19:32

It's all down to how you care for it though. I have 8 separate piercings and have never had an infection, so get plenty of good advice on care from the piercing studio.

SouthWestmom · 29/08/2018 19:43

I think it was too tight - first one in 40 years so unlucky

OP posts:
SilverHairedCat · 29/08/2018 20:02

Ah I see, yes that would do it.

Have the piercing. Just bear in mind that of it does nothing for you, at least you'll still have a nice piercing. That's the way I looked at it!

I'm tempted to get the left one done too, as my migraines have shifted to that side recently and it was my right ear I had pierced.
