Very tempted but, y'know, ouch and all that.

I've heard mixed reviews I was considering it too for my migraines until I discovered a major trigger being caffeine when I went on a diet and cut caffeine my migraine disappeared. Then I went Starbucks had a coffee the next day I was having a migraine attack. Coke is off limits for me now and so is coffee and believe me it has changed my life

SouthWestmom · 07/09/2018 14:32

I need to look at diet I think. Sadly I suspect wine is a culprit. And definitely coffee so that's gone mainly.

@WhatsYourFuckingProblem oh no! I had an infected piercing and antibiotics and I'm so scared of that happening again. Was awful.

It didn't work for Dd, but she's not upset she got it as she loves piercings anyway.

chasingsushi · 07/09/2018 14:39

My husband's migraines have almost completely gone away with a ketogenic diet. In fact the only time he gets them now seems to be the odd occasion he has carbs.

Hadn't heard about this piercing though, so will tell him about it for in case the diet ever stops working.

DoubleNegativePanda · 07/09/2018 14:46

I've had mine done for about two years. I went from having one to two migraines per week to less than five in a year. DD had hers done as well at 15y/o and has been life-changing for her. She still gets "headaches" which are manageable with NSAIDS but it has nearly stopped the debilitating migraines. A coworker got one and swears by it. A friend and her dd got them and also swear by it. So far I don't personally know anyone who hasn't had positive results.

The strange thing is that I do still get migraines, in my opinion. I just can't feel it. I get a good strong aura once or twice a month which is very disconcerting as it scares me, there was always horrendous pain coming when that happened. But now, once the aura is finished there's just this sort of fuzzy feeling behind my eyes. Kind of like the channel has been turned on the migraine and I'm getting static.

I also used to have what I called a heat wave; it was a hot tingly feeling that started in my hands and would slowly sweep up to the top of my head. This also always meant I was in for a horrible migraine. But now, it still happens but it gets stuck at my ear and doesn't go up my head, and the pain doesn't start.

It's all strange to me but my god, I'll take the improvement!

Unicornandbows · 07/09/2018 14:50

I found coke and coffee so hard to let go off but I'd rather go without then be locked in a dark room all day and see auras. So substituted everything for de caf

sweetkitty · 07/09/2018 21:58

I’ve had migraines since I was 6 so not hormonal or caffeine related. I don’t drink coffee just have the odd tea. I’ve had 3 in the past 2 weeks I hate them.

SouthWestmom · 07/09/2018 22:01

Well my lingering side lingered until a few hours ago. I suspect I'm quite invested so there may be a placebo effect - I'll take anything tbh!

I said to DD I wanted mine done to cure my migranes ...."You don't get them" she said. ( I don't but I still want a daith)

DD had her belly button pierced. It doesn't stop her cramps (but it's pretty ) Grin

Alwa · 08/09/2018 22:25

Don't put savlon on it, just leave it alone.

Elphame · 08/09/2018 22:42

Didn't work for me at all. After a couple of years I took it out and had a couple of snugs instead.

SouthWestmom · 08/09/2018 23:35

Haha my mum is 70 and hates piercings so I told her it was medical.

No excuse for my helix though.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/09/2018 23:45

DD ear (helix and tragus) she adviced t use salt water ( boiled water with a twist of salt from the grinder)
With her navel, hydrogen peroxide.

And the L.I.T.H.A. method (Leave It The Hell Alone ) Grin

SouthWestmom · 14/09/2018 20:59

One week in - no migraines...

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 16/11/2018 11:27

So.... update is

No migraines at all

A couple of migraine attempts - slight dull warning signs that never got off the ground.

I'm stunned - I'm assuming some form of placebo?

My daughter has hers done and she only had 2 slight migraines since she had it pierced - she was getting about 3 a week and was really sick with them. She had an emergency neurology appointment when she first developed them as the GP thought it was a brain tumour.

She was on Sandomigran daily to try and prevent them but that didn’t help and she been unmedicated now for over 4 months. Hers were stress induced migraines but she got though her HSC (a level equivalents in australia) without any migraines and that can only be down to the piercing.

She was told she had to be out of he migraine cycle to get the full benefit from it so we waited till she’d gone 3 days without one and quickly got it done.

It’s been life changing for her.

merlotmummy14 · 16/11/2018 16:19

Piercer friend believes it's a placebo: she still does them but warns her customers beforehand that there is no conclusive scientific study to support it stopping headaches.

SouthWestmom · 16/11/2018 16:41

Mine did say that to be fair. Said anecdotally they had had good results, bad results where people had changed them for lighter jewellery, and was interested to hear what mine were like after a few weeks

Hi, guys, can you help me with this please no idea where to turn. I get migraines with aura on the right, loose part of my sight on the right, numbness in my arm on the right, but head pain everywhere. Do you think I should try piercing the right ear?

I think seeing Doctor with those symptoms and an Ophthalmologist

I have a daith, a forward helix and a tragus and I have no faith in their medical powers but they are lovely .

Are you seeing your GP? This sounds like hemiplegic attacks.

Have you got triptans etc?

Mammabear999 · 10/07/2025 21:08

@SilverHairedCat I have seen a gp a million times and there is no cures. I have tried all the meds under the sun. It is 100% migraine with aura. I have been diagnosed years ago by a professional. So daith is my last option

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/07/2025 21:13

@Mammabear999

Give it a try, at the worse you won;t like it , take it out and it;ll heal,

Go to a piercer who will know where to place it , which side , best metal.
The one I go to (and DD ) use titanium as it is less likely to cause a reaction.

Migraine can't be cured, no. I have chronic migraine and I'm under neurology.

Triptans can stop an attack in its tracks though. There are 7 different ones if one doesn't work for you. Plus there are all the new preventatives and abortives which have only become available on the NHS in the last few years. Have you been through the gepants or the numabs?

Daith piercings are bunkum - pure pseudoscience, so by all means give it a go but don't pin all your hopes on it. I have both done, just in case, but no difference made. But I like the piercings.
