Which party?

Got a text from a mum at the weekend saying "Jimmy is having a party on 21st at 3pm. Invites to follow. Hope you can come".
I read it but haven't answered. I thought it was a bit odd to text in advance of the invite, there's plenty of time till the party. She must have my number from my son's birthday party last year, I don't know her at all.

Today at the school gate another mum was handing out paper invites to her son's party at the exact same date and time.

Whose party do we go to?

I have a suspicion that mum1 somehow got wind of the other party and sent out a pre-emptive text invite which makes me inclined to accept invite2.

Ds knows both boys equally, they are in his class but not really his friends so there's not an obvious solution there.

Awkward. Luckily I'm not back in the playground till Friday so I have some time before a parent asks me face to face.

Be busy and refuse both!

Such a difficult one! Does your son not have a preference?

I don't think that the text counts as an invitation. I agree that it seems a bit underhand to do that. You don't do a save the date for a kids party. I would be inclined to go to organised mums party. It's not fair for underhand mum to try to steal the date when organised mum has been so wonderfully organised a provided plenty of notice.
