Food - French Poulet Roti

I know this should be food but am posting here for traffic.

Has anyone visited France and had the French roast chicken and potatoes? They are absolutely sublime and I'd love to recreate them. The potatoes are roasted underneath the roasting chickens and taste amazing but whenever I've tried to recreate them, the potatoes are just fatty and awful.

Help me recreate my French dish now that I'm home! Please!

I think that it’s because British chicken has so much more fat than French ones.

I would imagine you need a rotisserie attachement/spit in your oven, with the potatoes in a dish underneath.

I'm in Belgium and I think the potatoes used ( as they are a suspiciously uniform shape and size) are probably vacuum packed slightly precooked ones.

I think a decent roast chicken with a bay leave and some proper roast potatoes (preferably with duck or goose fat) are much nicer.

I think unless you have the rotisseries to cook your row of chickens on the top and the potatoes underneath, you aren't going to be able to do it.
