Alternatives to sandwiches??

On holiday with DSD (who is 6) and she has suddenly decided she doesn't like sandwiches! What are your alternatives to sandwiches for lunch that can be eaten On the go? We plan to go out walking all day tomorrow and have no access to soup flasks or anything as we forgot to bring them. We've tried asking her what she wants but she just says she doesn't know.

Sainsbury's do a lovely pizza roll in their fresh roll section. We discovered them this week and dd1 has requested them for school lunch for the rest of her life!

Pasty, sausage roll. Not every day!

Mummaluelae · 28/08/2018 13:52

Rice crackers
Crunchy salad bits with dip or hummus
Cocktail sausages and cheese cubes
Pitta bread with filling of choice
Cheese string and cucumber sticks
Toasted muffins topped with cheese and tomato (like a pizza)
Chapatti

Is it perhaps not so much sandwiches but the bread (not filling) they dislike? I’ve had this once because I used different bread to what they were usually given.

I think a fussy six year old’s sudden aversion to sandwiches would be rapidly cured if there were no other options though.

Whatever else you find will likely be met with derision I expect!

I decided I hated sandwiches as a child for a bit and mum used to put jacobs crackers in my lunch box with cheese chunks, and cut up cucumber and baby toms in a pot.

@Botanicbaby there was no other option for two days in a row and she just didn't eat.

Managed to get her to eat salad wraps. Maybe that just seemed different to sandwiches for her.

Meant to say the two days in a row was two different types of bread. She wouldn't try either of them though.

Cold quiche is my saviour here. My eldest dd is not keen on sandwiches (will eat pretty much anything else though). We do cold quiche, sandwich fillings with crackers, (basically deconstructed sandwich). Wraps are also good.

Botanicbaby · 30/08/2018 10:45

I know this sounds crazy but could you substitute bread slices for rolls instead?

Oatcakes are handy for eating on the go but not sure if they would appeal to a 6yo as they can be quite dry and an acquired taste.
