Give up my job?

I am due back from maternity leave next year. I have a decent job, I take home roughly £1500 a month. It has private healthcare, pension and a share scheme.

They are being difficult about flexible working. My issue is I’ve just had twins and will be paying out tonnes in childcare (have another kid about to start school), taking home around £500. Me and dh worked it out, we can’t survive on his money alone and need around £400 to £500 to be ok.

I’m so sad that I won’t be able to have more time with my kids. I dont want to work this many hours. I’m lucky in that family provide cover one day a week (for free) but even so twins in childcare is costing loads.

What would you do? Can I find a job in evenings and that day I have cover? I’d be happy to work Saturdays too. Do jobs like this even exist? Part time jobs round here go quickly!

On one hand I don’t want to walk away from benefits I get. But in other hand I want to see my kids more.

Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you do and how did it work out?

Put in a written request for flexible working and state the hours. If they say no they need to tell you why and you can appeal.
I hope it works out ok, but I wouldn't quit, just see what they say officially.
I applied a few years ago when circumstances changed and I was told by my boss I wouldn't be granted part time as no one is and I went through the proper process and was given part time hours.
