Do you know why some records in the genre sound out of tune or as if the record is off-centre ? 'Out On The Floor' by Dobie Gray is a good example.

What is the origin of the expression 'Keep The Faith', and the raised fist ?

Thankyou.

The raised fist owes its existence to Chris Burton owner of The Torch- the Northern Super club that dominated the scene from 1971 to 1973. Looking for a logo to represent the scene, Burton commissioned an illustrator in Stoke on Trent to create the artwork . The illustrator took direct inspiration from the two black US Athletes who had raised defiant black power fists at the Mexico Olympics in 1968.
Keep the Faith-refers to a sort of rallying call to other Northern Soul aficionados.
I think you just unfortunately got a bad pressing with your copy of Mr Gray's masterpiece. Mine is absolutely fine.
Keep the Faith.

Thankyou susiella. I don't actually own a copy of Out On The Floor but whenever I've heard it on CD or on the radio (John Kane, Radio Leeds) it has sounded out of tune, especially the vibes. Maybe they weren't properly tuned to begin with.
