Why do I feel so bloody low all of a sudden?

40, three kids, good marriage. I've had a cracking year, achieved some good goals physically and have on the whole been so much more positive.
But over the last month I suddenly feel tired and a bit low. I'd started taking more time for my appearance but I just can't be bothered again. The kids wear me down and I feel bored too. The exercise that once gave me such a buzz is feeling like a chore again.
What's happened? Sad

I was discussing this with my mum today. I've felt v similar - like wading through treacle. Same age although one less child.

I suffer from anxiety but that's actually as good as it's ever going to get so don't think it's that. I'm just so achy and meh.

I do tend to have low iron/vit d so I've bought a supplement today to see if that helps. Lots of early nights. Reduce caffeine and alcohol. A bit of yoga.

Hope you feel better soon.

catdrugs · 27/08/2018 16:41

Yes maybe a supplement will help.

I can identify with this. It started for me at the end of last summer. I took vitamin D at a high dose and felt better.

Stopped the vit D for summer and three months later I feel the same as you.

I’m restarting vitamin D!

I could have written this! Have 4 dc, similar story here. I think I might be anaemic though. I'm going to see the gp tomorrow. I just feel I so lethargic and foggy. Definitely only been the last few weeks. I've also had a terrible outbreak of acne and greasy hair so am also wondering if there is something hormonal at play.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 27/08/2018 21:40

like wading through treacle (please forgive the hijack on your thread catdrugs ) (and @PhyllisWig please excuse the @) but I wanted to say, this is exactly how I described it before I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid. Do ask for blood tests too!

Sorry, I'm a bit vociferous about thyroid testing - I know its not always the answer to everything, but women's health issues are so often brushed off and it can be so simple to fix when it's vitamins or hormones.

OP, I've been thinking about posting something similar myself. I'm 42 and like you have had a really good year - finished studying a course I loved and landed a better job than I could have imagined. I feel very fortunate in so many ways - a good marriage, three happy kids and no significant health of financial worries. But for the past six months I've just been feeling very flat and tired. I've also noticed that my pmt is much worse, my skin has been rubbish and I've gained a bit of weight around my waistline, so I suspect there is something hormonal at play. I must make an appointment with my doctor. I take vit D and iron already so I don't think it's that.

Also don’t forget omega 3 oils too. Are there bumps on the back of your arms? Dry heels? Omega 3 oils have also been shown to alleviate low mood

Just posting to support, hormones have chased me through the decades. It does not stop when your periods stop either boo hoooo.
