Relocating - how do I make schools work?

I'd be really glad if some help. We currently live in London. We want to move out, near to DH's parents - but I can't for the life of me work out how the schools issue works out. DS is going into Y11, and ideally we'd move after GCSEs and before A-Levels. But we need to apply for 6th form college by Jan. Is there a way to apply in our proposed new location, when we can't possibly move til the exams are done? I can't get a straight answer from the council.

Thank you!

6th form colleges prefer applications early to help with planning but unless it's oversubscribed they will take walk ins after results, it's all about numbers and bums on seats - colleges aren't run by schools or council so you need to speak with them directly.
