Depends... I'm in Texas and can buy everything mentioned in this thread either from my local British store, supermarket or amazon.... the only things I can't get are Percy pigs and Grazia magazine....

shakeyourcaboose · 26/08/2018 20:55

God couldn't cope without Bru! I think you can buy it but is extortionate!!

BradleyPooper · 26/08/2018 20:55

Forgot that you can't send kinder eggs, they are indeed banned and will be seized if found....

Free healthcare

Copperbonnet · 26/08/2018 20:58

To be honest in most big supermarkets you can get a lot of the things mentioned on this thread.

I live in the US and the things I miss are chocolate (you can get it here but it’s expensive) and M&S biscuits. I also miss nice, plain greetings cards. The kids miss diet Irn Bru, Percy Pigs and Monster munch.

The thing is, if she’s emigrating it’s not actually that helpful to be handed a huge bag of stuff you somehow have to find space for in your case

Posting a box of anything will be very expensive.

Rather than sending her anything too big, buy her a USA guidebook and a promise to call her or email her once a month. You’d be surprised at how friends drop off once you are out of sight. I even lost a very close friend.

Alabasterangel6 · 26/08/2018 21:00

My parents are in the US and I’ve tried to do this a few times and failed. Mostly because these days you can get everything there in the UK section of the supermarket anyway. I’ve occasionally sent tea, shortbread or curly wurlies but things they like more are slightly cheesy British patriotic tea towels (like maps or stately homes), a British calendar (with things like our bank holidays on) and multi region DVDs of British dramas (they can’t get all of them online/over there).

Kendal mint cake is a novelty but rarely eaten.

My dad says he like ‘English toffees’. Eclairs etc. But that might just be his taste!

Mominatrix · 26/08/2018 21:04

Of course you can get decent chocolate in the US. European brands like Lindt and Valrhona are not difficult to find, and Ghirardelli is a perfectly fine brand of chocolate.

Gin can be found everywhere, but the small labels will be difficult to find.

Walkers shortbread are ubiquitous, and can even be found in TK Maxx.

Good tea, Percy pigs, cheese made from nonpasturized milk, Tunnock's tea cakes, marmite, champagne stoppers, decent cider, are difficult if not impossible to find.
