Where to sell vinyl (or what we used to call 'records')?

Meandering on with decluttering, and have decided maybe it is time to get rid of some old records. Are there any second hand shops you can take them to to sell? I don't want to try ebay as I can see posting them ending up being lethal to the poor things! (and I never do buyer collect) I'm South East, can get to central London without much hassle.

Or realistically is it a waste of time to try to sell them and the charity shop/jumble sale is the best place?

Any experiences gratefully received!

Depending on the albums and the condition, vinyl albums can be worth quite a bit of money. First place to look is Discogs - it will give you an idea of historic prices on the albums you have, and you can sell them there also.

If not work loads of money, car boot sales, eBay, an local record stores would be my next port of call.

Thanks Momin- that is a very useful site! With records postage may be trickier than with most other things, so if I can find a reasonably local shop I think I might prefer to go for that.

Not sure yet if any of mine will fetch much - must start going through them.

There aren't many record shops left any more so they started a thing called Record Store Day. Their website has got a 'find a store' page - there may be one near you who buys S/H or they may know someone who does.

Thank you senua, it looks as though there are quite a few possibles in London. Time to start sorting the records - may even have to play them again to check their condition!

Boot fair always have people selling records. I have picked up quite a few this way.

It is interesting that people still buy records - there must be a reasonable market if second hand shops still exist.

I suspect that there's no market for second hand cassettes though! Although having said that I will go and check......

If they’re in decent condition you shouldn’t have any problem offloading them - vinyl is incredibly and increasingly popular. I think you might be right about the cassettes though although maybe there’s a niche market for them. CDs are becoming obsolete now - we have hundreds of unwanted ones!

I was going to suggest Discogs too. There used to be a lot of record stores in Soho, around Berwick Street, not if Sister Ray and Selectadisc are still there?
